Good value, but neighbors can cause problems

We lived at the Hunt Club for over three years and overall I recommend it.
Apartments are old but large with plenty of storage space. The apartments have good sound insulation so only the worst noises will be heard. Amenities are better than average but seem to attract many non-residents.
The biggest problems we had concerned various neighbors. Generally people tend to keep to themselves... except when they're causing trouble. One family screamed 24/7. Another girl keep her barking dogs locked up in her apartment all day unattended. Speaking of which, dogs are the root of a lot of problems at the hunt club. There are a worrying number of bull terrier type dogs about, even though the Hunt Club will officially deny it. I've seen more than one nasty incident involving dogs. People who keep vicious dogs in apartments should be put down.
The question I was most often asked by prospective/new neighbors was whether is was save. The fact that it's nominally Ypsilanti and not Ann Arbor seems to spook some people. The answer is definitely yes. There were a few rowdy nights over the years but nothing serious ever happened that I heard of.
The management is OK, but I wouldn't be late with rent since the penalties are high. However, unlike The Pines apartments nearby, I've never seen a Hunt Club resident thrown out on the street.
Lastly, after we left we got all of our deposit back, but only after reminding them... twice.

I agree with the comments regarding the dogs. I lived in a building where the guys upstairs had a pit bull, and a guy down the hall had a Rotweiler. They are slow to respond to maintenance concerns, and if/when they do, the job will never be done correctly. The apartments are spacious, but as stated above, they are old, and not well-maintained. The neighborhood is definitely getting seedy. Another problem is the tremendous rent increase at the end of your lease. This is really poor on the part of management because they should envourage good renters to stay with lower or nominal increases. Instead, they offer great special to lure people in so that they can tear the place up and leave it in shambles for the next tenant. Not smart. Although nothing tragic happened while I lived there, I would definitely NOT move to Hunt Club. Apartments in neighboring Ann Arbor can be found a a slightly higher price, but with MUCH more modern ammenities, safer neighborhood, and better staff.

Very helpful - I don't think we are going to be moving into Hunt Club - very aggresive marketing, on their part already put us on our guard - now too many of the reviews are scary. I really appreciate all the posts - especially about the dogs as we have small children.
