Quiet and oh-so-reasonable

The greater Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area is way overpriced and characterized by near-dorm sized apartments and paper-thin walls. Stop by a few communities, and you'll see what I mean, and then go directly to the Meadows.

The Meadows is completely different from anything I saw in and around Ann Arbor. The price is reasonable, and the apartments are spacious, the parking more than plentiful, and the silence...heavenly. The people who own the Meadows don't play around with noise or "weird behavior." They know everyone here, and ask questions of those who don't appear to be residents. This results in a quiet, peaceful community in which the children can play outside (quietly!) and if you leave your keys in your door or forget to lock your car door...you likely will not be robbed. Given how close we are to crime-plagued Ypsilanti, this is impressive, indeed.

The bedrooms and closet space could be a smidge bigger, and it would be nice to have an extra half-bath in the two-bedroom units, however, they have a large (not galley!) kitchen and a full-size washer/dryer, so it's not a bad trade-off. All homes (including the smaller one-bedrooms) have a private entrance and address, and the townhomes have their own small back yards. You can even move up to two cats in for a reasonable increase in your monthly rent.

This is not a transient community. Many people stay here a while and garden in the front and back areas of their townhouses. When we moved in, for example, we saw several homes with blooming sunflowers in front, and others had some lovely landscaping.

The maintenance guys are phenomenal about responding and they fix your apartment like they own it. In other words, they will try one or two less expensive fixes first, and if something fails to respond to those fixes, they'll replace it.

You can tell that the Meadows are privately owned and the owners take pride in their investment. The new manager is a little hesitant, but she is new, so perhaps she'll warm up a bit soon. Despite her hesitance, she is generally available and effortlessly helps with requests.

I can't believe I forgot to mention location. At the corner of Ellsworth and Michigan Avenue (and just two stop lights to I-94, near the 94/23 intersection), you can get to anything you need fast and easily. Shopping is "just down the way" and you're minutes from the "other shopping" down by the mall as well. There're even two cheap gas stations at the 94 entrance. The apartments are technically in Ypsilanti Township, not Ypsi proper, and they have a country feel.

Do not pass up the opportunity to move here, even if you have to sacrifice the second bathroom. You will simply not find a value like this in the area for the price. If you're a student and like loud parties, however, please look elsewhere...you'll be asked to leave anyway. If you love peace and quiet, whatever your profession, consider your search over.
