Unprofessional & Poor living

Peninsular Place Apartments is, like many apartments in the area the "Best in Student Living". While we often know this to be a bit of an overstatement, places tend to at least try to appeal to the title.

I moved into Peninsular Sept. 2006. The first couple of months were fine. I had some issues with financial aide and they let that ride as they understood that it happened sometimes. Time moved on and things were decent.

Troubles began to materialize around November 06. As the cold air came in we realized that there was a pretty significant gap under the main entrance to the apartment. We also realized that the rooms tended to not hold heat very well, especially the A room in the three bedroom setup. As it got colder and colder it became more and more apparent that the building was not insulated properly. We kept the heat at about 65 F over the winter months, the rooms tended to feel like they were 55 F, and we were getting electric bills that ranged from $180-$200 every month, even though we did everything within our power to keep the energy bill low.

To add to the annoyance of the cold weather, we started to have some major issues with our cable. This started around January, and has continued to be a problem throughout the rest of 2007. Comcast blames Peninsular, Peninsular blames Comcast, and no one has really fixed anything as of yet.

I've found the office to be lacking as well. While they seemed nice originally, they have not been overly professional. While waiting for a loan I recieved eviction notices even though I told them and gave them proper paperwork stating that I would have the money. I was told that what I had provided was alright, yet when I talked to the manager (as the person I had been dealing with at the time was on vacation) I was told there were "no notes" on the file and that I was screwed unless I could come up with the money ASAP. They also called the courts before 10am, which was earlier than they said on the paperwork I had till. When I asked for proof that they called the lawyer to cancel the court date I was treated as a child because the manager was too flustered to deal with everything.

Another issue that I have with the complex is the noise. While I understand that the complex is filled with college students, the walls seem EXTREMELY thin. There are usually parties going on around my room at least every other day, and they always seem to not want to turn their music up loud until 3am. I have tried to be a nice neighbor and not cause a scene, but when I played my music, albeit louder than I probably needed to, at 7pm, I had a security officer at my front door because someone placed a complaint about my music being too loud.

The grounds of the complex are nice, but that too is a facade. With the constant parties, I have walked out of my room only to find that there is a pile of vomit, beer cans/glasses, and/or broken glass lying all around the entrance to my room. These piles tend to stay there for at least 1-2 weeks before someone from maintainence comes to clean up the mess.

All in all, the price that you pay at Peninsular is not even REMOTELY close to what you get. Maybe if the rooms were $300 a piece things would be different, but I find the $500 I pay a month ludicrously high for the quality of living I receive here at Peninsular.
