I liked living at River Drive - no real problems.
The apartments are oversized but can be kind of overpriced, but if you want to be close to EMU that is what you pay for. I lived in a 1 bedroom (smallest) without a balcony and also a 1 bedroom with a balcony and walk-in closet. The walk-in closet was very large, and I liked it. There is only laundry in the basement which is a huge downside. The apartments are very old and in need to updates. I have had personal issues with apartment not being cleaned and painted upon my move in (was painted and given a $100 off rent for the first month) - but it was still a nuisance.
I think things are looking up here as they have new management. I had problems in the past but with the new people it seemed to be better and they were making some good changes at River Drive (lower rent is probably not one!). But the pool is nice and always maintained. The grounds are nice, lots of mature trees and flowers being planted. I never had a problem with maintenance, they always fixed things properly but most things I fixed myself so I did not call on them too often.
Office staff is very friendly.
I had some problems with my air conditioner not working very well especially on hot days. I think the whole building's air was just broken. It is not central air it is a very old system and it was completely rusting out. I am sure they fixed it upon my move out but that is one thing that was not great.
Overall it is a great place to live if you want to be close to EMU and if you can get a roomate do it because it is a little pricey.
Also sound carries pretty well but it depends on what building you live in because the first one I was in it was constant partying and noise and then when I switched buildings it was always very quiet except constant squeaking floor from the neighbor above walking around so maybe being on the top is an option if you can pick!
I recommend living here :) I did for about 4 years and probably would have stayed except a job re-location forced me to have to move closer to that.
