affordable rent, expensive utilities

Everything was ok until we recieved our first electric bill. When we talked with the manager before moving in, she stated that the average electric bill for a one bedroom apartment was around $30-40 a month. Our bill was over $100. When we went to manager and showed her the bill, she said that it was because of the AC. The DTE operator said that Mc Kinley properties were equpied with the old AC system that took a lot of energy to run. We were never told before that the average price that the manager provided us with did not include the AC. We did not use the ac too often. I suppose that if we had the AC on 7 days a week in August, my bill would have been at least $400 for a one-bedroom apartment. After numerous visits to the office, I just got tired of listening to the same thing: ac is expensive everywhere. So if you are considering moving into Roundtree, think about the utilities bills. the rent price is very affordable, but the utilities make the apartment cost almost the same as in Ann Arbor. The safety issue is also our concern: very dark in the evening and early in the morning. The other thing is the laundry areas: very dirty, the washers and dryers are old. The tenants do not ever clean after doing the laundry. I try not to use the laundry room in my building at all.
