Worse than student housing!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
When I moved in I thought this was a great complex. The management seemed nice, the apartments were large and the rent was very affordable. Much to my dismay this changed very quickly. A few days before I was to move in I asked to view my new apartment so I could request that any repairs be made before I moved in and was told that under no circumstances would I be allowed to view my new apartment until I had paid my move-in fees. 3 days after I moved in I started to smell very strong pet odor coming from the carpet (I didn't have pets) and complained. They responded by sending out a steam cleaner 2 weeks later, which didn't solve the problem as the smell was in the padding. Several phone calls and 3 months later I was finally told that they would replace the carpet in my living room if I could take 2 days off to be there to move the furniture for the carpet layers or move my furniture somewhere else (now just where else in a single bedroom aparment am I going to fit a full size couch, dining table, chairs, entertainment center, etc.'). In the meantime my car and my boyfriend's motorcycle had been stolen from the parking lot just outside the front door of my building. Over the next year I had to have my furnace fixed 3 times and my AC fixed twice. I later found out that the reason the AC ran all the time was because the electrical wiring isn't capable of running AC units for the entire building - therefore the AC will only blow out air that is 10 degrees cooler than the room so on a 90 degree day you get "cool" 80 degree air coming out of the AC. My dishwasher leaked and the kitchen faucet became detached from the sink. While I can understand and appreciate that these are apartments and things do break I don't think that I should have to request a repair more than twice. While maitenance was always prompt it took a couple tries before the problem was resolved. When I spoke to management about increasing security they told me they didn't have the money....and then they renovated the management office and built an internet cafe. As for me, I'd rather know that my belongings are secure than have an internet cafe.
While I know other people that have been satisfied with their apartments at Roundtree I feel that this is not a safe complex. Laundry rooms are not kept clean by the residents and the managment needs to get its priorities straight. I've lived in cheap student housing and never had this much trouble.
