Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006

I lived at Schooner Cove for 2 years. My first year was in a 2 bedroom located on the far right side of the property by the park and main road. We lived on the ground floor and really didn't have any problems with the ground floor level besides a lot of bugs. As far as the office staff that year...we would turn in our rent checks and there were a couple of times that somehow our checks didn't get entered. We ended up getting served court papers because of unpaid rent (when we clearly handed them in to a person). Then they wanted to charge us the fee for filing the court papers, because they said it was somehow our fault that our checks didn't get entered on time. As far as crime goes, the only thing i knew about that happened that year was a girl in the Ford Lake Landing apartments getting shot and killed by her boyfriend. It was hard to miss since it was the building right across the street from mine.
The 2nd year my boyfriend and I moved into a 1 bedroom apartment on the complete opposite side of the property in the back by the lake. We chose that year to live on the 2nd floor. That was the year when the crime got really bad around Schooner Cove. Almost every night when i went outside to walk my dog you would see all these cars parked at the very end of the parking lot by my building sitting side by side running with their lights off. Any person with common sense would see that and know what they are doing. If not, the next day when it was light out you could see all the broken glass bowls, papers etc... on the ground where they were parked. I worked as a server at a bar and would get home around 3:30-4am. One night i came home to cop cars and caution tape everywhere to where i couldn't even get back far enough to park and get to my building. I got out and talked to an officer to find out what happened and how i should get to my building. He told me it was a drug deal gone bad. I had to walk in between the caution tape and the building to get home. Where i saw all the bullet casings, and blood on the pavement. After that they hired a security car to drive around at night but it really didn't make me feel that much safer. I still saw cop cars everywhere, but not because they were patrolling our complex but because they were chasing after someone. After the rape, shootings and drug deals we tried to get out of our lease early because we just didn't feel safe there anymore. But of course the leasing office wouldn't let us without paying the huge fee to move early.
Everyone has stories about things that happened, bad experiences, etc... in every apartment complex. My advice to those looking to rent apartments is do a little research of your own outside of this website. Its good to read what previous people have had to say but everyones experiences are different. If you are concerned about crime and break ins... take a look at the local newspaper. In there you can find the area of the apartments and see whats happening in your area. Also call the police department and find out why police have been called to a certain apartment complex, or any calls that have been made to them. They will tell you a lot more then the leasing office.

Did you ever notify the police of the cars outside your building? Also, I used to work for those apartments and a lot times we wouldn't know what goes on after office hours because nobody would tell these things. It's kind of hard to correct a problem when you don't know it exists.
