Our first impression on schooner cove was that it was a nice apartment complex to move into. But in the last 9 months of being here, i now think otherwise. First of all I have never heard of an apartment that makes the tenents split sewer, water, and garbage. Another expense.. the insolation on these buildings is horable. If you move here plan on paying a pretty hefty heating bill. I have my windows covered in plastic and it is STILL extremely drafty. On a day with any little breeze our apartment is freezing! There is cold air flowing through the intake vents. I had to cover them with blankets (which is probably not that safe). And the main bedroom is the coldest of all. Just this morning i figured out where it is coming from.. the edge of the room where the floors meets the walls. When I told the staff about the cold air they told me 'oh well it must be coming through the siding, we can't do anything about that.' Yes you can! You guys are making so much money off this complex, use the money to fix the place! And opposite to that, in the summer it is scorthing in this apartment even with the a/c on full blast. All the A/c seems to go into the hallways, it's always cool out there. Oh and plan on getting really close to your neighbors. All the vents are connected and you can here clear as day any conversation in the building. Don't plan on getting intimate with your husband in the main bedroom unless you want everyone in the hallway to hear you(for some reason the halls are connected with the back room). The rent goes up every year that you are here, plus you have to resign a one year contract every year. Since the day that we moved in all we can smell is marijuana everywhere. (not so safe with our infant) Our car got towed in the summer because my boyfriend parked in the carport for like 2 hrs. and we didn't have carport access. Yes this was wrong of him, but there have been cars parked in the same spots all winter long (which is in the lease that that is not allowed) and nobody has towed them. ($300 by the way for the towing). And repetedly Schooner Cove has sent out a notice saying they did not recieve rent and that there would be a late fee. I've never been late on a payment. And they did tell us to disregard the notice after I contacted them but I shouldn't have needed to deal with the hassle in the first place. All in all I wouldn't recommend this place.

I can see where you are coming from with your frustration with AUM. Many complexes in the AA/Ypsi area use it though. My suggestion for anyone moving here is to request one of the buildings in the middle of the complex with the patios that have a glass enclosure. They are slightly older, but well worth it in the winter. I lived in one of the newer buildings on the far end of the complex and then moved to one in the middle of the complex and the heating bill in the winter is significantly less. In the coldest months in my first apartment it was anywhere from $100-120. In my current apartment, the highest bill was $80. Also, regarding rent increases and renewing leases: You can negotiate for slightly lower rent if they try and raise after a year. And, you can also sign a short term lease. They are willing to work with you if you are a good resident. I've done that twice while living here. I do have to agree with you on the pot comment. It is everywhere, unfortunately.

really? I didn't know they even had units with a fully enclosed balcony like that. I'm sure that would help a bit with the heating bill.
