Both pros and cons - overall, you get what you pay for

There are many pros and many cons to living at Schooner Cove Apartments. First and foremost, we all need to remember that we get what we pay for.
Pros:
1. Excellent community manager. Marena is wonderful! She is personable and professional and always appears to care about keeping good tenants.
2. Friendly and efficient maintenance. The majority of the maintenance staff is very friendly and efficient. I have had to call on them a few times and even the after hours staff came right over and fixed what was broken.
3. Good size apartments. I have a large one-bedroom on the third floor and really like the layout. The kitchen is a little light on cupboard and counter space for someone who enjoys cooking and baking as much as I do. However, there is enough space in the kitchen that I was able to add a small rolling cart and a shelving unit for additional workspace and storage.
Cons:
1. Old buildings. We had to have our furnace replaced last year and the one they replaced it with looked older than the one they took out. It works, but it is loud and annoying. The windows are also old so there are constant drafts and leaks. We put plastic over them in the winter, but it doesn t help much. Our utility bill averages over $100/month consistently which is ridiculous for a 1 bedroom.
2. Neighbors. This is an issue in pretty much any apartment, but I have had to make numerous complaints and even call the police a couple times about large groups loitering in the parking lots or overly noisy neighbors. Because the rent is cheap, so some of the renters. complaints to the office are always addressed, but I don t want to live somewhere I have to file complaints on a regular basis.
3. Smells. Someone in my building smokes (both legal and illegal substances) and the smell filters into my apartment. Management has addressed the illegal substances and I haven t noticed it recently, but the cigarette smoke is still a problem. I think the vents are all connected somehow and some days it smells like someone has been sitting in my apartment smoking. Unfortunately, there is nothing management can do about this because no rule is being broken. It is just really gross so I have invested in lots of candles and fragrances and try to keep my home extra clean.
4. Poop all over! This is the worst. I have a pet, so it is nice that the complex allows pets, but I wish they could do something about all the poop. Once there was a big pile right in front of the office. I have witnessed several dog owners who don t pick it up and it is just gross not to mention a health hazard!
To sum it up - some good, some bad. If you have a problem, put it in writing and keep a copy for yourself. I have done so and always see the problem resolved as quickly as possible. Management can t fix an issue they are unaware of they rely on residents like us to inform them of offenses so they can be addresses and corrected.
