not bad but no place is perfect

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

Well I first moved into schooner cove in December and it was great and affordable. Until I got my first DTE bill. I leave my heat at 65 year round I cover the windows with plastic and put heavy curtains up. Always turn the lights off upon leaving the room unplug all unnecessary items. Everything they recommend to keep costs down. I wound up with a bill of over $300. how I don t know. Then I started to notice the heater never shuts off I can see people walking past my door and there is always a breeze. Now you would think I am paying $719 for a two bedroom apartment that they would at least update the windows to 2 panes or go the cheap way and put outer winter windows in and take out the screens and maybe seal the doors with weather stripping. Just a thought. And during the summer OH MY GOD don t even get me started on the spiders I could not open any of my windows due to the giant cross spiders that inhabited mine I had about 5 or 6 of them in each of my windows. I couldn t even walk out on to my porch with out running into dozens of webs. Because I have an open porch its even worse. You would think they would spray some pesticides that are non harmful to pets maybe just a thought. One thing I do have to say though is that they do fix things with a day or two but sometimes its not done the right way. Like putting a long wood screws in the lock to hold it in place well putting it back in place after it slid down lol. And we had our bath room fan just start dumping this nasty moldy yellow and black water and no one knows where it came from. And snow removal sucks big time but they are getting better about the salt. Now as far as the staff goes they are always very nice and helpful but there can be a lack of communication with in the office staff. Since I moved in December of 08 there has been 4 different bookkeepers all with a different style and set of rules. The first one amy she was so nice and amazing boyfriend and I both got laid off but had enough money to cover the month we had no income after we found jobs working at minimum wage we were never able to catch up so we went and talked to them and worked out a payment plan of every 2 weeks. And we were always able to pay in full before the next month. And it was like wow an apartment that is willing to work with people in these terrible economic times. Then a few months went by and we got an eviction notice along with a late fee. so we went to the office and talked to them and they waved the late fees and said it was just a reminder. And then the nest month comes and we get another one. We go up and talk to them again but this time they cant wave the late fees but we wont get court charges since we told them the situation. The next month roles by and we get another and this time its no wave of late fees and you get court fines unless you get you balance under $150 by a certain date. Then the next month comes and it s all or nothing on the 1st of the month. I went and talked to them about this to figure out what was going on. And they told me the original bookkeeper of schooner cove was gone for a year and everything got messed up and to relaxed which caused a very bad chain reaction through the rest of the complex. I.E. the moderate increase in crime dew to lack of background checks. I mean I had bounty hunters camped out on my porch for some dudes stupid unpaid tickets. like really parking tickets. They kept questioning me about my car and stupid things like that no mild drug usage I can handle but when you can smell it in the entire building and out side you know there is an issue. But I think enough of us complained and they got kicked out after receiving several eviction notices. But I think everyone in my building complained and they got booted. They have been very good about letting us know what s going on as far as crimes goes and stuff like that I just think they could do a better job on the updates of the apartments and making them more energy efficient. I mean for the over all price of this apartment which is like $10,000 and not to mention the almost $2,000 DTE bill you can perches a small house. And nowadays most apartment complexes put all utilities and rent together which seems more cost effective and easier for people with money issues. I m not being disrespectful of schooner cove I just think they need to get with the world today by going green and, combining all the bills into one steady rate or at least working with the people who are making an honest effort at being a productive member of society after being hit hard by the economy crash. I mean the location is great and its beautiful the people are nice and all that jazz. I do like it here but unfortunately I wont be able to sign another lease due to the major expense of the appartment
