Not the greatest place...

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007

I have lived at The Pines for a year. The best thing about the apartment is that it offers a lot of space and has updated cabinets and counter tops in the kitchen and bathroom. However, I have had several problems. When I was moving in, I chose a different unit on the property. But after putting in my $100 deposit to hold the apartment, I was told the next day that they had not only lost my check, but that they had given away the apartment that they had reserved for me. I found a new apartment on the property to rent and I was told that I could have one wall painted with an accent color, that I would have new carpet, and new appliances (fridge, oven, dishwasher) in the kitchen. I did not get any of these. After moving all of my furniture in, I realized that the carpet had not even been cleaned (only vacuumed). I steam cleaned the carpet myself (and have cleaned it numerous times since then), but they still smell like dog urine and have since the day I moved in. I do not have pets, so the smell is obviously from previous owners and their pets. The carpet is still very stained as well. After weeks of calling the office about the appliances, I was finally told I would have brand new appliances installed. When I got home the day the "brand new" oven and dishwasher were put in, I discovered that they had replaced my old appliances with old appliances in a different color. The dishwasher does not wash my dishes thoroughly and the ranges on the stove are crooked. The other issues I have with the place is that there is very limited parking in the lot outside my place that is consistently full by 5:30 in the evening, which means parking in a lot farther away and walking. It's not that big of a deal when it's light outside, but at night, the place is not well lit. I am lucky that I only have one person living in the apartment above me because I can hear EVERYTHING that happens up there. Overall, this apartment is fine temporarily, but I don't think I would stay long term and I would be happier if the staff had been honest about what my apartment would look like before I signed the lease and not made promises that were not kept.
