The management changed about 2 years ago and that improved things. The staff here is much nicer than most, and they do seem to care about their residents. They also offer an assortment of incentives to renew a lease, which is great. BUT...The quality of the residents in my building seems to have gone downhill. We never had problems with noise or crime until recently. Now we have partiers at all hours on balconies and getting LOUD in the parking lot in the middle of the night, as well as loud cars with loud music pulling up at all hours. Two babies that I know of live here, and I'm sure they get woken up most nights by the noise-makers who don't seem to care about the other residents. A car was stolen from the parking lot last week, and yesterday someone's cell phone was stolen from their car in the 2 minutes it took them to run inside their apt for something. The police seem to be here pretty frequently lately, and I've heard that another tenant threatened to shoot someone last week.
Be careful when looking here that you see the apt. you're actually going to get. It was the previous management, granted, but I was shown a nice model with a balcony but didn't see my actual apt until move in day. My bad. Turns out I had a "garden" apt, which means it's half underground and has no patio or balcony. There was no price break for a "garden" apt, either. There is one washer and one dryer for 12 units, and most people aren't very polite about them, leaving their stuff in the machines for hours, sometimes days. There are no tables or anything in the room, so you just have to pile their stuff on the machines if you get tired of waiting. Plus there's one large hot water heater PER BUILDING that is for the laundry and all 12 apts. Be prepared to get move quickly in the shower if someone turns on the cold water. Ouch. Still, if the noise and alleged crime are brought under control, it's not a bad place to live. The upgrades on the apts upgraded the price considerably too so not as cost efficient as it used to be. The internet cafe is cool, the indoor portion of the pool is open year round (although not 24-hour as previously advertised) and the work-out room is great. They have really neat things for the residents, like pool parties with cook-outs, and a few weeks ago they had pony rides for the kids. That was really exciting for the kids here, and fun to watch. For people who complain about the geese and their droppings, it's totally obvious that there are many ponds and geese here just by driving through, so if you don't like the wildlife, don't move here and then complain about it. I would recommend The Pines, but maybe talk to some of the people in the building you're to live in first.
