Don't Move There

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
The apartment complex was decent and I had high expectations when McKinley took over. But those expectations went unfulfilled. I resigned my lease after promises of a time frame of completed construction and a number of ammenities. Neither of which happened as stated. The walls were entirely too thin for me and the heating system was terrible. It's Michigan and they cut the heat off in the apartment before we were even completely out of March. I was promised upgrades to the light fixturing and it never happened. I was told in June of 2006 that the fitness center would be complete by November, but it hadn't even begun when I left in June of 2007. I expected construction would take longer for all of the renovations they promised so that didn't bother me, but what did bother me is that it would be 10:30 at night and they were still doing construction outside. And they'd start back again at 7:30 in the morning. For someone who works, this is TERRIBLE!!!!!! Here's a partial breakdown of my 2year experience
1. An intercom system was installed and locks were put on the main entrances. But the intercom wasn't setup until a year later.
2. Those main entrance doors never worked. I actually had to have my girlfriend come and let me into the building from inside because the key was a hit or miss.
3. At 10:30 pm on multiple nights, the construction crew was using my porch to prop tools and ladders to do work on the balcony above me. (apt unoccupied)
4. The next morning following one of the 10:30 instances, I had to actually go upstairs at 7:30 am to request that the construction crew not hammer on the floor in the bathroom because my fianc and I were actually trying to sleep (again apt unoccupied). When they finally stopped upstairs, they left a cheap bistro set from that balcony they had replaced on my patio. And had the nerve to send me a letter saying they would charge me a trash collection fee for throwing away the "clutter" on my patio!!!!!
5. I had multiple instances where someone would just sit outside and blow the horn multiple times while having the music up full blast. So much for the no loud music signs outside right'
6. The reviewer below me and myself must've lived in the same building because I had to deal with that same people with the mariachi music.
7. When the heat actually was working, it sounded like someone was bangin on the walls with a sledge hammer.
8. I had to leak coming from my bathroom ceiling that I called about twice in one day before some came out and did anything about it. Turns out they had to replace pipes in the wall and ceiling which became a torn out shower for a day and replacing my bathroom accessories that they destroyed.
9. And they replaced the person keeping the finance books in order 3 times in the same year. I called the clubhouse to check on my balance and was told that I had a credit to my account. Which they couldn't completely explain so they said I must have been given a free month for resigning my least. Cool right' Until the last person that took over sent me a collections notice saying that I was behind on my rent by a month. And because they fired the person who "made the mistake", they wouldn't do anything. Would I ever rent from them again' Not in this or any other life time. Would I recommend it to anyone' Not even possibly
