Throughout my year living at the Villas, my apartment was broken into, as was everyone else's on my floor, and many residents had things stolen. When the police arrived at the scene, they mentioned several other armed robberies that had occured recently -- in the buildings directly surrounding mine. This was news to me, as the management at The Villas managed to keep the gun-toting thefts a secret from us paying tenants.
While I realize that crime can happen anywhere, The Villas' management team seems virtually unphased at the criminal activity. The establishment is gated, however the gates only go up after 7pm, and on a regular basis I have arrived home after that hour and the gate has still been hanging open, the guard room completely unattended. I never see any security on the premises, and in the winter time, the locked front doors to each building don't shut all the way, making your keys obsolete, as the handle can just be pulled open. It is also not uncommon to hear gun shots go off through the night, as well as people yelling and swearing from the parking lot at all hours of the day.
Like I said before, the management team at The Villas is also incredibly unprofessional. They seem unconcerned when you have a problem with your apartment, and will go without picking up the phone, even when calling in the middle of the day. When calling the "emergency" maintenance number, your call goes directly to voicemail. When we tried to get someone out to fix the front doors to our building, as it is dangerous and unsafe to have doors that DO NOT LOCK, our requests were ignored and weeks went by before anything was done.
In the winter, our heat went out five times in one month. The first time this happened, I called the maintenance number (left a voicemail), and hours later a man showed up to fix the problem. After having a staring contest with the heater for a good five minutes, the guy told me he had to run to the office and grab something real quick. I waited up all night for him to return, and he never came back, even after repeated calls to his number.
Also in the winter, after the heat had been "fixed", it would sometimes sky-rocket to temperatures that brought us to a sweat, and, of course, the heat would not go down until someone finally came back to fix the problem again.
In the summer, there was an infestation of ants. Maintenance people were called time and time again, but the ants never went away, until finally they either died or migrated when the weather got cold.
Over Christmas, a package we had ordered was reported as being delivered, but when we arrived at the office to retreive it, the management told us they had never received the package, and had no proof, since they keep no record of packages from the post office. Other times I went to pick up packages and no one would even check my ID before handing the box over. It is very likely that someone could have taken my package from the office simply by saying they were me, as incoming package notes are left right on the front doors of buildings for everyone to see, and they do NOT check for identification.
At times we would get letters posted to our door saying we neglected to pay rent for the month, even though we had printed receipts saying that we had. Upon walking to the office, we were told, after some research, that we HAD paid rent. The next day we got another letter on the door saying the same thing, this time threatening that we would be fined. Again we went to the office and again they told us to ignore the letter, as well as any others that got taped to our door in the near future.
Overall, I am thoroughly pleased that my lease with The Villas is finally up. The place is relatively inexpensive, but there are alternatives in the area at equal or slightly higher prices much more deserving of your tenancy. The Villas are unsafe, irresponsible and entirely unprofessional.

You said it right! I am glad to be gone from there! One thing I want to add, and that is please pay your rent on time. If you are 10 days late, they WILL take you to court! Then you have to pay almost $300 on top of the cost of your rent. The account lady in the office is very mean and does not possess manner, so beware!
