DO NOT RENT HERE

At first, it seems like a great place. Pools, sauna, fitness room(ha!), and secure underground parking...I thought it had everything. The more I lived there however, I noticed that the flaws are MUCH greater than its attractions.
1. Maintenance does a "walkthrough" (which seems to have stopped lately) every 3 months to check for issues, but in my apartment, they failed to notice the leaky toilet that was warping the floor and causing a huge mildew issue, even AFTER I called them. Once I had called enough times, they "fixed" it 4 times. I ended up having to pay a fortune in doctor bills for my son who is highly allergic to mold spores because it was in the floor and wall by that time according to my insurance guy who came and checked it out. His advice' MOVE OUT. Maintenance also came into my apt while I was gone and screwed up my shower because of a faulty leak in my pipe that was ruining the ceiling of the apt below it. There was adhesive and sealant all over the floor of my shower.
2. Secure underground parking...what a JOKE. My car was broken into twice. After the first time, I was told that they never guarantee security, and that it shouldn't be assumed. BTW, I was also told that the cameras do not monitor the parking garage, and are instead only mounted at the doors "and that should be good enough". I was told that they were unable to find out who did it because despite my parking right next to a camera, they weren't going to inspect everyone walking past it in a night. When I called the cops, I was told its fairly frequent there, and he also made a statement that there are several old employees that still have keys to the grounds. I brought this up to their head office in SD and the lady I spoke to actually got angry with me. She wanted names of the cops, and names of who said these things, and told me that security is never guaranteed here. They provide a place to live, and that is all.
3. Constantly changing staff. Its hard to get comfortable with an apt complex if their staff is always changing. Such is the case here, they go through admins in the office often! The worst one was a snippy lady who was pregnant. When I informed her of my intent to move out and the fact that my insurance company had told me to file a lawsuit for the mildew issue to get reimbursed, she said why don't we just let you move out early, and call it even. I accepted, and said that was fine. She said to drop the keys off and that would be good. Lo and behold 6 months later, I get a collection notice. Of course I call, and get told "oh we don't know anything about that". Figures. I wrote their "home office" about it and was told that they hire only the best so I shouldnt worry.
4. Shoddy workmanship. If the mildew wasn't bad enough, there were issues with the carpeting unravelling, the seals around the windows having HUGE gaps in them (when your blind blows in and out in winter its a pretty bad thing), the AC not working that well, the sink leaking, the doors not closing right, and so much more. They hurried to build this place, and although it might now show immediately...it will soon enough. Garage doors broken quite often and we had to drive the WRONG way to get out on many occasions.
5. Other tenants. One of the worst things about the place is that there is no security. I caught a kid trying to break into the storage room, and found another kid in there smoking pot on several occasions. I informed the office and they said "yeah we talked to him". When I saw it again, I called the cops and then told the office and they were shocked that i called the cops. "We will handle it" they told me. Other kids run through every floor, or paople have parties on the ground floor that spill out into the parking lots, and nothing is done. There is no on site security, but with a place this big (and shoddy), their should be. Walls are thin enough to hear people through them. I could hear the neighbors yelling in their bathroom every morning. People above me were up at all hours, and playing a drum set at 4am. I called the office and reported it and it never stopped. Broken glass in parking garage, broken glass and cigarette butts around doors, and old furniture and such outside on the side of the house by the garbage bin. Nothing was done.
6. Deposit. Good luck getting that back.
Spare yourself the headache and move into a better place. DO NOT RENT FROM HAYLOFT.

I too have been living here for 2 yrs and am noticing problems. People yelling in parking lots at 3am and drunks in parking lots. I still after 2 yrs do not have a storage unit although tenants with less time do.Kids running up and down halls, etc. Love the apt and the maintenance and cleaning crew. Rent just went up 30.00. The quality has sure gone down. Office staff is constantly changing.

I agree with you 100%. When are they going to change things? which buidling did you live in? and have you seen the playground area? that looks terrible! and VERY unsafe!! I think you should still get a lawyer and sue them!
