Watch out for the townhomes

When I first came to Devonshire I thought it was a great place. The townhomes were spacious and had newer appliances. The real surprises came later. Once winter hit I found out what it really costs to live here. First off $1100 is fairly steep but manageable if you have a townhome with your own garage and entry. However these were built with the cheapest windows in the history of building. There is nothing like getting the shock of a $500 heating bill in a townhome where costs should be fairly stable. You could sit on the couch and feel the draft of cold air coming from the basement window and door. I actually had to put 8 inches of insulation in the window and heat wrap the window to minimize the cold air. You could still feel the drafts afterwards. We did live on the end unit so beware of that as the others may be much warmer. The comments of the walls/floors being thin are accurate. Our neighbors would be pissed when we walked around. We once were watching tv and they came over to complain we were having a party. We invited them in and they were shocked to realize that we were actually doing nothing out fo the ordinary. My favorite was listening to our neighbors drunk arguments in the bedroom that adjoined ours. You do get a good chance to know your neighbors personal lives though. Overall a nice community but be sure to lock your doors at all times. Also there was a murder there in 1991 in one of the townhomes on the ground floor so be sure to take extra security precautions with your sliding patio door. You can find better for the same price.
