We moved in here 2 years ago, and although the building was old and a little run down, we did really like the layout of the one bedroom apartment. The bedroom is down the hall, separated from the living room, which is sunken in. We also liked how the living room was separate from the kitchen and dining room. The rent was also affordable. But now, as we move out 2 years later, there are still things in our apartment that were broken when we moved in that we could never get them to come fix. Also, it is so loud. You hear everyone come up and down the steps and in the main door, and we could sometimes hear entire conversations of our neighbors through the walls. At one point our apartment became heavily infested with ants and it took them 4 months and numerous phone calls to come out and do something about it, even when we told them that we had sprayed and set out traps. The pool is NEVER open! They are horrible about that! Every other day there is a sign posted saying "the chemicals are imbalanced, closed until further notice" or just "pool closed today" without any explanation. I called many times to see what was up, and they usually said that because it rained the day before, they had to close it. I used to work at an outdoor pool for 2 years and I also lived in other apartments with pools, and never once did we have this problem. There is also terrible CRIME in this area. Within 6 months I had my car broken into twice. And this is when I parked in the "well lit" area of the parking lot, directly in the view of the security camera. They even caught the guys on tape! Once I had the lock in my front door cut out and the stereo stolen, the second time, in my other car, they just smashed the front window into a thousand pieces. The management said or did nothing about it, the cops just said this happens all the time here. Furthermore, the apartment across the hall from us was broken into through the bedroom window. As for the workout room, we didn't feel comfortable using it. It is down a narrow spiral staircase in the basement, and there is a door in it that leads to the parking lot. It is dim and confined and there were no security cameras. I haven't used it in over a year since we didn't feel safe, so maybe they put one in now. But the few times we were down there some very sketchy people would come in and out of the parking lot through that door and give us dirty looks. Finally, the management was very rude with us most of the time. We payed our rent on time and never gave them any trouble, so we didn't deserve to be treated poorly. We even had troubles moving out when we didn't want to renew our lease. I have lived in 4 other apartments and never had this problem. Usually, if you don't renew your lease by a certain day, it is assumed by both parties that you will not be renewing it. It wasn't until it was too late, that we were informed that we were supposed to give them written notice 60 days before our lease expired that we wouldn't be renewing it. Because we failed to do this and turned in our written notice 6 days late, they called our new apartment and gave us a bad review and also threatened to renew our lease anyway and force us to pay increased rent on it for another year. This is just ridiculous. I think we also have to pay them $40 a piece just to move out. They'll do anything they can to get a buck. I would think seriously about looking elsewhere before moving here.
