I have been living at this apartment for almost a year now and I have not been satisfied with the service provided or the apartment itself. We moved here from another state and looked at other apartments and thought this was a really good deal....WRONG!! One, it is super expensive after looking through newspapers and ads there are cheaper and nicer apartments out there and two, the apartments are just plain horrible. They try to tell you the rent is one amount but then they tack on other stuff like garage, garbage, pet, water and etc!
The apartment walls are thin...very thin you can hear anything even your neighbors breathing...litteraly!

In the summer we found that the wiring in the building was so outdated that the power would go out at least once a week. Our dishwasher is falling out of the wall and our "new" air conditioner was not installed properly and because of the bad installation bugs were coming through the areas around the air conditioner. I personally had to seal the areas around the air conditioner to stop the bugs from getting into our apartment. Laundry is terribly expensive. It costs $1 to wash and $1 to dry. There is 4 washers and 4 dryers per building and there are over 50 apts in each building. It is very difficult to find a time to wash your clothes and if you do, make sure you keep an eye on your stuff because the rude residents that live in the building will take out your clothes and put them on the table that people use to bleach or put stain removers on their clothes.

The clubhouse is only open until 11pm even on weekends. They have garages for $50 a stall but if you only get one stall you have to share the other with a total stranger. You would think that since we have two stalls and pay $100 a month for them we could get them somewhat close to our building. No, we have to walk at least 150 yards down a dimly lit maintenance road to get to our garage. As far as saftey goes I accidently opened the door without removing the safety chain. Not a problem, because the chain was only stuck into the sheet rock and easily came out of the wall. A ten year old could break into your apt. If you are actually considering living at the International Village Apartments I suggest that if you don't own a firearm you seriously think about purchasing one. After living in North Dakota my entire life this place scares me.

This summer when a wind storm hit the International Village my neighbor had a 30 foot pine tree laying across his car. There were over 50 trees laying all over the grounds including the one that layed across the power lines going into our building. We did not have power for over 5 days and the temperature was between 90 to 100 degrees. The clubhouse did get power after 3 days but I guess thats because it was first priority. International Village after 3 weeks of having the grounds look like a tornado went through them told the residents that everything ruined in the storm would be replaced. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was why misc. charges started to show up on my rent. This was the only apt that I have ever lived in that you didn't have a set rate for rent each month. You received a bill in the mail with varying amounts each month.

As for the pet policy they definately welcome pets.....of course for an additional monthly fee and a $300 non refundable deposit. If you would like to enjoy the nice green grass around the building please watch your step so that you avoid all of the dog poop that is left on the ground. If you would like to use the gas grills provided by the International Village please make sure the you find one that works and you find one that was not used as an ash tray.

One thing that really upset me was the smoking issue. They have tiny signs stating to smoke so many feet away, but no one follows that. I called the management because I am allergic to smoke and I live right by the doors so when I would have my window open to get some fresh air, smoke would just come right into my apartment. For all of the smokers that don't enjoy the fresh outdoors, don't worry you can do what my neighbors and just smoke in your bathroom. This is the first time in my life that I honestly think that I received second hand smoke by using my own shower. All the management did was put a really small piece of paper up and by the next day they took it down again. Another thing is that if you have friends come to visit dont bring them in the club house. Every time we have friends with us the lady there that is supposed to help you with issues or concerns asks us how many live here and give us dirty looks. I do not feel safe here and I don't think you should choose this apartment it is horrible and if we could we would move out right now, we would!!!!

That is your opinion and this is mine that is what this site is for. It is amazing how the response came in within 10 hours of when our review was posted.....I am pretty sure you work here that is why you are saying all of this stuff about the staff. Which is kind of pathetic since they should be taking our information and looking at what they need to improve on and not writting responses to try to make themselves look good. Sorry for telling our side of the experience, but this site is for getting peoples honest opinions. Do you seriously think that paying $900 for a one bedroom apartment that was built in the 1970's is a good deal? From a resident who is not happy with living at International Village!!!

Have you ever lived anywhere else in the cities? I live at International Village and a $1.00 a load is very cheap laundry here...I have paid $1.50-$1.75 elsewhere. Its funny that you say you are "scared" too, you can definitely tell you are from North Dakota as you say. This area of Bloomington is great and a single young female I have never felt afraid. The only time my power has gone out in the two years I have lived here was during the bad storm this summer and I certainly don't blame International Village for that! Good luck to you when you move out, you won't find any staff quite as nice or apartments any cheaper unless you don't need the pools and clubhouse that this place offers. From a resident who is very happy at International Village!

when i go looking for apartments if i don't feel the place is worth the money then i don't rent there. if you think 900 bucks is too much for a building that was built in the 70's then thats your own fault. you decided to live here. also agreeing with the person above....if you think a buck is expensive to do laundry then your just cheap and again you should have checked to see the amount before you moved in if it was a concern

What a loser. I hope you move out soon.

I have read through all the comments above and am a renter at International Village since 2006, and my rent has consistently gone up EVERY year. Yes the apartments are expensive and I pay close to 1,000 for my one bedroom and that is very high. You can rent a town home for that price. I also pay 70 dollars for a garage and not 50. So I think it best that you check around for there are a lot of inconsistencies in all the stories written above. I plan on leaving International Village once my lease is up, for I have no desire to keep paying more money for the same place when nothing improves. I have liked International Village but can assure you that there are nicer places around which cost less.

The person who wrote this is an idiot. international village apartments are beautiful, safe and well maintained. they want to talk about the storm that hit last summer and the huge pine tree that hit a car, yes my car was parked next to that car. The power did go out, not only here but over hlaf of bloomington. however it was not for 5 days, it was 3, and the staff did get all residents a deal at a local holiday inn which they did not have to do. i apparently live in the same building as you. Laundry is not expensive, and i only ever have a problem getting a machine on a sunday. If you have so many issues with that try a laundromat. Yes, you can find cheaper apts in the city, but they have crappy neighbours, crappy management and just a crap apt in general. My rent amount has stayed the same every month, no issues at all. I called the office one month because i was confused and they offered for me to come in and go over the charges with me until i understood. Also i would like to note that last summer Pierre was management and he was an idot. Now Heidi is back and she is changing the game! So why dont you just stop complaining already?
