Great, for an apartment

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
If you're looking for an apartment, International Village is top of the line. I lived there from December 2006 - November 2007.
Parking - Plenty of garages available, well-lit parking lot, could stand to have a few more parking spots outside.
Noise - It was always very quiet at night even though it's in a very busy part of Bloomington. It was always busy outside in the summer, but never overnight.
Grounds - Many beautiful trees. A storm last august knocked down some trees but the damage was cleaned up quickly. There's a few sculptures around there too. The whole place is pleasing to the eye.
Safety - Keyless, secure entrance to all the buildings. Naturally with any apartment, it's not 100% safe because some people will hold the door open for almost anyone. The parking lot and hallways are well-lit. I've not heard of any crimes committed.
Construction - They are older apartments but upgraded frequently. Last year new siding was put on at least one of the 9 buildings. I had all new appliances. One negative is the wall A/C. The apartment had one and it was in the living room which made the bedroom too warm in the summer (2nd floor). Also, I didn't need to turn on the heat unless the temperature outside was below 30 degrees. If it was 30 outside it was 70 inside. Maybe the apartment below me is to blame' The recreational center was upgraded too. More on that later.
Maintenance - Top notch. They refinished the basketball court, tennis courts, and parking lot. They put new garage doors on our garage. After any storm (and there were a few big ones), they cleaned up immediately. The hallways were always clean.
Staff - I didn't need to deal with the staff much but they seemed good. Pierre was a little intrusive when I put in my 2-months notice. He thought International Village was doing something wrong even after I explained we bought a house. They notified residents of upcoming changes well in advance, whether it be construction, maintenance, or policy changes.
Overall - Remember this is still apartment living, but it's the best apartment you can find in the metro area. All your needs are close by: grocery stores, banks, restaurants, parks, mechanics, and the mega mall is 10 minutes away. 98th street is a very busy road which takes some time to get used to. There's a great excercise room and 2 swimming pools, along with other fun things in the rec building. They have community events like yoga, volleyball, aerobics, game night, pot luck, and movie night. That's all included in the rent. For me it was $795/month for a 1-bedroom with a cat and garage. I heard they charge for water and garbage now too. Unfortunately you can only get comcast for your television, no satellite dish or other cable providers. I got my full deposit back even though a couple walls needed to be repainted. The maintenance guy said normal wear and tear won't affect the amount you get back. Only major things get taken out. They give you a storage room too, I'd say 5' wide by 4' deep by 7' tall. Excellent place to live, I definitely recommend it.
