Free Heat Actually Means Heat-Free

Spare yourself the torture that is the Atrium!
Having an apartment where heat was included in the rent seemed like a great bonus when I rented this past spring. Little did I know that come January it would take a thermostat set to ninety-five degrees, two space heaters, several layers of clothing including the hood on my sweatshirt, and constant bundling in an electric blanket to make life tolerable. I have taken to sleeping on the sofa at night to stay reasonably warm, as my bedroom is a balmy sixty degrees.(At this point, I'm wondering if I should start wearing gloves too!) The seals on my windows are so poor, the vertical blinds wave in the breeze coming from outside. A chilling draft, from the hallway where heat is apparently non-existant, wafts in under my door. I'd nearly be better off jumping in a frozen lake to bathe rather taking a shower in the frosty air of my bathroom.
The lack of proper heat is just the lastest in a long line of dissatifications. The building is incredibly noisy, revoltingly dirty, and seriously unsecure (the police recently, after another series of break-ins, left letters on everyone's door stating that crime was on the rise and to take precautions).
At the expiration of my lease, I will run far, far away from this disaster of an apartment community. I actually feel sorry for the management. They must receive multitudes of complaints daily and are not often in the position to do anything about it. How awful to have to sell people on renting what they must know is a complete hell-hole. I don't envy their jobs a bit!
I used to think apartment rating sites where filled with rantings and ravings of disgruntled tenants who wanted to get back at their former homes. In the case of the Atrium, I assure you, the negative comments are completely accurate. Please be wise and heed the warnings that you read.
