Not worth the money

Burncliff Apartments seemed like a good place to stay for my year at school in Minnesota, that was until I had signed the lease and spent the first night there. My classmate/roommate and I lived next to loud people who liked to stay up until 2 or 3am and talk and shout rather loud on their balcony right next to my window, and smoke marijuana. My numerous complaints to management did nothing. The police showed up at the apartment complex at least two times a month with around 6 to 8 police cruisers. This was usually domestic disturbance issues but there were two robberies on the same night once. The elevator smelled and worked poorly the entire year. Anything I could think of broke in the apartment and we had to contact maintenance several times to get things fixed (2 burners on the stove, air conditioning which took several months, wooden pannels on the sink, our toilet leaked and caused the cieling to fall down into the apartment below). While stuff broke, maintenance was good. The people were nice and friendly and fixed whatever we needed. It took so long for a response because there were so many things breaking in other people's apartments. Management seemed to be alright until my roommate's check was "lost" when we turned in the rent (it was in the same envolope with mine) and it cost him $20 to cancel his check. There is also the issue in MN (which really can't be blamed on Burncliff) with having to notify your landlord if you are not continuing your lease. I believe the number of days needed before you plan to move out is 60 days. My roommate and I gave 58 days notice and by sheer luck we didn't have to pay another month's rent because some poor soul decided to rent out our apartment. My advice, do not rent at Burncliff. You pay too much for an apartment that's not worth half the price.
