A 20-year-old from Bloomington was charged with burglary in the first degree, attempted aggravated robbery and second-degree assault in connection with a shooting at Burningham Apartments in Burnsville last week.
According to Burnsville Police Sgt. Dan Carlson, two men suspected to be involved in the incident have not been apprehended.
Darryl Wayne Lidel Jr., 20 and a resident of Bloomington, was charged Thursday, Oct. 13, after police picked him up at a pediatrics clinic in Burnsville, where he requested medical assistance.
According to the Dakota County District Court complaint:
Lidel, who identified himself to police at that time as Darryl Wayne, said he was shot in the right hand when four males ran up to him and demanded his money.
While contacting Lidel's family on his request, officers learned Lidel's real name. After being confronted by the police about the false name, Lidel told officers that had been at Burningham Apartments to buy marijuana from someone he knew as "Dude."
Lidel claimed he was at the side door of the apartment building when a black male demanded money and shot him in the hand with a semi-automatic handgun.
The report said that due to inconsistencies in Lidel's story, his photo had been placed in a photo lineup where T.T. identified Lidel as the person he had struggled with over a handgun.
Carlson said Lidel was shot in the hand when the gun fired in the struggle with T.T.
According to the police interview with T.T., he said he had left his apartment at 6:30 p.m. to get something to eat, when he was approached by three men in the hallway. T.T. described them as a black male in his early 20s, an older black male with gold teeth and wearing a black sweatshirt, and a young white male.
The younger black male put a gun to T.T.'s head and asked: "Do you know what this is'"
T.T. attempted to get back in the apartment but the three came in with him and a struggle ensued. T.T. recalled that he wrestled with the younger black male, Lidel, while the white male punched him in the head.
During the struggle over the gun, the gun discharged.
The struggle continued into T.T.'s bedroom where he heard the older black male say, "Give me the gun." T.T. got back on his feet and the older black male pointed the gun at T.T.'s chest and shot him.
The bullet struck T.T. in the upper left part of his chest and collapsed his left lung. T.T. fell to the floor and the three assailants ran out of the apartment.
T.T.'s roommate, who was able to get into his room and prevent entry, called the police and officers were en route. The roommate exited his bedroom and ran out of the apartment in fear for his safety. T.T. made his way down to the building entrance alone where police found him.
T.T. was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Carlson said that as of Friday afternoon, T.T. was still at HCMC.
Lidel remains in custody in the Dakota County Jail in Hastings.
