Before I lived in my apartment I checked it out. At first it was fine, everything was good. But then when I signed the lease and was ready to move, the office called and said the previous tenants were buying a house and needed another month. So, being the nice person that I am, I let'em have it. The next month came and again the couple wanted to extend it one more month. I explained that it was my last month and I need to move or extend my lease. The office said they were going to work things out.
Later that week the office called me back and said that if I allow it to be pushed another month, the office would put me in a 2 bedroom on the 2nd floor for the price I would pay for the 1 bedroom on the 3rd floor (the one I wanted). I went to see the 2 bedroom and noticed already the smell of the place, the mirror was rusty (I didn't know mirrors could rust but this one did), toilet and seat was molding, neighbors up and down were going to be loud, and a dirty shower (who wants that!') I refused and came up with the idea that I move in, the old tenants move into the 2 bedroom. That way, their stuff is already packed and ready to move when it's time. What I didn't understand was, why did the office come up with this idea!'!'!'
On moving day, the first thing I noticed when I moved in was the carpet was still DAMP and the SMELL! (It had smelled liked rotting squash or rotting fruits for those who know what that smells like.) I had reported it to the office and they said the carpet had just finished being shampooed and they'll have someone come and reclean the carpet so it would get rid of the smell. That night before I went into bed, I noticed the bottom of my feet were dark gray. I could've sworn the office said the carpet was clean! After cleaning the carpet the 2nd time maintenance came up to see if they can locate the smell. Couldn't find it! His answer was that it was the shampoo and for me not to worry. He also said to turn the A.C. on low and crack open the deck door and window for about 1 hour and it'll go away. The smell REMAINS!!! And after fogging the place too for an hour, the smell REMAIN!!! After all that time wasted...I gave up and lived with it.
A month into moving in, the neighbor below would play loud music and let it go on thru the night. Working 3rd shift that was a problem. I would always respect his peace and quiet but it was never returned. This would go on for weekends at a time and many times during the week. It finally came down to making an official report before thing changed and the music was put on a curfew. Again, working 3rd, the loud music wasn t working well with my work schedule.
After the first few months, things were uphill from there and no more problems. As we all know, money got tight for everyone. The office staff was very respectful and I felt that they understood me on a personal level. I explained my situation and they were willing to work with me, not just once but a few times. As my lease came to an end, they made it known that they wanted me to renew my lease. I wanted to stay but due to the economy, I wasn t able to afford it without a roommate. If one day I were to need an apartment again, I would DEFINATELY go back to Woodridge.
