Two friends and I shared an apartment at Fountain Place back in 2002-2003, took very good care of the place, and cleaned it thoroughly upon leaving. After leaving we were told that we would not only not be receiving our security deposit, but would be charged additional cleaning expenses. The appearance is that this facility has engaged in a practice all too common with landlords: to assume that a damage or security deposit is income never to be returned, and to assume the right to tack on cleaning charges as a matter of course, all in the interest of increasing corporate income. And as this threatens our credit rating (a weapon all too easily used against us), we had to cough up the expense just to get out from under that threat.
