I lived here for just over a year. The unit is old, lots of small problems here and there, and maintenance WILL frequently forget your requests. I had a moldy, rotting, falling down kitchen ceiling for months and they continued to ignore maintenance requests. Finally they came and fixed it when I sent in pictures and threatened to call the health department. Two months ago, the rental office moved a family of about 10 people into the "3" bedroom next door(they count a laundry room in an unfinished basement as a bedroom). These residents are loud, smell AWFUL, and very rude. Within weeks, I was writing several complaints to the rental office about the constant noise that was waking up my child on a regular basis, as well as the child abuse and neglect that I witnessed going on in that unit. The police were called several times to their unit, by me, by others, and even by themselves for domestic abuse(one of the men living there who wasnt on the lease punched a pregnant woman). After over two months of close to 15 written page long or more complaints documenting dates, police calls, specific incidents, and even over a half hour of video documenting the level of noise and the harassment from the neighbors(they had figured out who was complaining and began harrassing us), the only actions the landlord took were to write letters, meet with the people, and finally after two months of continued complaints, he claimed he was giving them a last and final warning. Since his warning, the people continued to get louder, I called the police and documented it on video again. Instead of following through on his promise, the landlord flat out accused me of lying, even when I have offered him video evidence proving it, he ignored that offer and flat out refused to do anything. In addition, we had other new residents who sit outside panhandling, begging, also loud and obnoxious, and they were even outside our windows yelling threats about shooting us because we wouldnt give them cigarettes. Again, the management did absolutely nothing except ask them if they did this(of course they state no) and then accused me of lying(even though the police were called again). To top this off, I found a window sized HOLE in my bathroom hidden behind my vanity(vanity was screwed into the drywall without anchors). The hole was more than large enough for someone to crawl through, and allowed total access to our unit from our neighbors townhome into ours. I notified the landlord via email and after over 24 hours, they completely ignored my message! I followed up and told them I would report this to housing if it wasnt fixed immediately. They responded claiming they didnt realize that I would want them to fix it because they didnt think I wanted their maintenance staff in my house(this came in response to me asking them to leave notice when their maintenance entered. at no time did I state not to have maintenance in my house, I just asked they leave notice, give prior notice when possible, and not randomly enter and exit my home without warning and for no reason).
I had also discovered that all of my complaints about the neighbors were made public news by one of the maintenance staff and his girlfriend. I have also had maintenance randomly walk into my house on more than one occasion, for no reason at all, and when they found someone home, they immediately made excuses about having the wrong apartment. I have WITNESSED a situation where the landlord told me he was calling our neighbors to the office to discuss their noise issues. I watched the neighbors leave for the rental office, and as soon as they were gone, I witnessed the maintenance staff sneak into their house. He left no notice on their door that he was there. The walls in these units are paper thin, with random holes people can crawl through hidden about. There are huge gaps so if your neighbors smoke, do drugs, or just flat out SMELL like mine do, your unit will smell like it.
My door frame has been broken since I moved in, and door bent and obviously broken into in the past, they STILL havent fixed it in over a year. It is clear that the landlord's one and only concern is getting that rent check every month. I reviewed my lease and noted that I had given proof that our neighbors had broken pretty close to every single term in it, except paying rent, and instead of evicting them, the landlord accused me of lying(again, had video evidence) and pretty much told me to screw off. He then lied himself when he tried to tell me no one else had complained about these people(he had previously documented others had complained, I have given him over half an hour of video proving the noise level which he completely ignored, and I have personally spoken to other neighbors who have confirmed they also complained about these residents to him directly). In response to the recent death threats from our neighbors, broken door frame, bent up door, and random holes hidden behind bathroom fixtures, along with the alienation we are now experiencing because the maintenance staff living on site has teamed up with the revolving door, ghetto neighbors to harass us, I am vacating early and breaking my lease. Unless you want random groups of people sitting on your steps blocking your door, refusing to move, panhandling for cigarettes and money, threatening to shoot you, loud obnoxious neighbors screaming outside your windows at all hours of the day or night, horrific odors coming through to your house from next door, police outside your house frequently(we witnessed police squads responding at least 3-4 times a month since we moved in), bratty kids fist fighting outside your doors, swearing, people selling drugs outside your doors, prostitution houses scattered throughout the property, mold growing in many units, groups of 20-30 men rapping in unison outside your back door in the middle of the night, garbage strewn about, rocks thrown all over the lawn by bratty kids, and an office staff who will flat out accuse you of lying if you complain too much about any of it, DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!

we lived there last year and loved it...the staff left notice when the entered and the landlord was friendly and knew us by name...also, the staff was up every morning picking up garbage at 8 a.m. We had no holes, mold, or broken locks. Maybe we lived on the other side of the property.

I've lived here for almost a year and have MANY good things to say about it. I am not the management, cross my heart. I am a 28-year-old female that lives in a townhouse with my boyfriend. Maintenance has taken care of my work orders, nobody has appeared to have entered our place without notice and I've found the staff to be helpful. I have been helped by both Helen and Thatcher. I know what it's like to rent from crappy landlord companies, it's super frustrating. My last apartment was ran by evil people. It really sucks that you are experiencing this at Brentwood, but I have to note that there is at least two people in my home that really enjoy living here. I would leave my name and townhouse number, but I'm totally convinced you will harass me.

Let me clarify a few things, as the writer of this original post. #1. I do not want your name, townhome number, or any other identifying information, nor did I EVER ask for it. I posted this anonymously myself to avoid a harrasment situation(such as when you, oops, I mean the "person" replying to the last post asked me to post with my name instead of anonymously, why? so I can be harrassed, no thanks). I posted an email address in case people wanted more info, or copies of video to help them decide if they want to move here or help them in their cases against brentwood, but I purposely made a new email address without any identifying info to avoid people harrassing me at my real email address. #2. yet again, a negative post about brentwood immediately followed by a positive one claiming to have never had any problems AT ALL. Again, because every single neighbor I had ever talked to in the first year I lived there HATED brentwood and couldnt wait to be able to afford to leave, I will of course have my doubts.
#3. I feel the need to clarify that I had also lived here for a year, and found it tolerable my first year because I had GOOD neighbors at the time, and like someone else said, you get what you pay for. It certainly was NOT perfect, there were a LOT of little things and of course, the maintenance nonchalantly letting themselves into my locked house on 2 occasions while my guests and I were there was NOT fun. Neither was harrassing the office staff to fix my ceiling, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and actually decided to stay there. Had I known ahead of time they would move a family of 10 (including one violent, drunk, convicted criminal) in the "three" bedroom next to mine, and that that smelly family would have loud screaming matches in a foreign language all night long directly outside of my windows, I would have NEVER EVER re-signed that lease(apparently a laundry room walled off in the basement is considered a third "bedroom"). These neighbors moved in August 07. At first Thatcher cooperated and seemed helpful with my complaints and getting them to be quiet, but as time went on, he stopped being helpful, and started flat out ignoring and lying to me as the problems persisted. his biggest mistake was that he lied in writing, and lied to someone who knows their rights as a tenant. As written in my post, neighbors got worse, thatcher (landlord) promised to evict them on three separate occasions if the problems were to persist. he put two of these promises in writing, the third was in a phone call we had when he called me at work, on my employers recorded phone lines. Thatcher even acknowledged that he had confirmed many of my complaints with other tenants. But again, once the problems continued to persist into the dangerous situation described above, the landlords "helpfulness" went out the window, the lying and ignoring me began, and in the end, after I found the freaking HOLE IN THE WALL hidden behind my bathroom mirror, he pretty much told me to deal with it and put in writing that he would not take the action he promised to take 3 times in the past. so yes, it is super frustrating to deal with a horrible landlord such as the management of brentwood park. What is even more frustrating is when you are trying to help people and warn others about the place before they also get duped into moving there, and there are responses like the ones above. Like someone else said, I am sure their rating isnt so horribly low because of one single bad experience. when there are seemingly fake responses claiming to have had no problems AT ALL with this landlord, and all of these responses are written within days of any negative postings, it does tend to make one suspicious of the validity of these "shining" reports of life at brentwood. But, the pictures above speak for themselves, and I am sure that the goal of my post, to ensure that people know ahead of time what they are getting into, and to be able to band together with others who got burned by the brentwood slum, has been accomplished.
OMG!!!! BRENTWOOD DOES WRITE THEIR OWN REVIEWS ON HERE. There is a review written about the "bradley house" in st paul, mn, also owned by the goodman group(owner of brentwood park). this EXACT same review, appears on both brentwood and the bradley house's reviews. Bradley house review dated 7/26/06, brentwood review dated 7/26/06 as well. WOW.
BRENTWOOD/GOODMAN GROUP ALSO HAS AN UNSATISFACTORY RATING WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU http://www.mnd.bbb.org/commonreport.html?bid=16087
AGAIN BE CAREFUL!

Yes I do agree all of the negative press is true about brentwood park, I have been living here since june of 07 and I'am also counting down the days until my lease is up as well. I do think it could be a nice community if they where more selective of who they lease to. On that same note they are WAY to leniete on people who are not on leases staying in there properties. I have witnessed all of the above accusations also, the walls are to thin, lots of teenagers hanging out and adults, yelling and curseing outside of certain units.
I'am also very familiar with the Samoli family that has caused more than a few issues. It's winter now and all i can do is think of how rowdy it will become around here when it warms up, and i find that very sad because your home is where you are sappose to have peace.
I have experianced some nice quite days here along with very loud ones.
Sometimes I hate to have family or friends over because I'm always being asked "is this the projects or a rough part of hopkins" and that is very embarrissing. I do not recommend living here until someone starts caring enough to clean this place up.
