I know apartments are almost never perfect, but for $920 a month I would expect a lot more. My building is fairly clean, but maintenance is slow to respond to any issue. Once they initially finally "look" at your issue, it usually takes at least 3 or four repetative calls to management and sometimes even regional or corporate management to solve a problem. The apartments have very poor insulation at the windows, and if the temp drops below 10 degrees which is common in Minnesota the wimpy electric heaters can't keep up, and it will show on your electric bill. My thermostat has 2 settings, constant heat or no heat. To get it to turn on or off you have to beat on the thermostat which they refuse to replace.
The residents they let move in are part of the ghetto Wal-mart crowd. Unsupervised kids are constantly running around yelling and screaming on the lawn. Tell management about this and they act like they are powerless to do anything about it. I called the police several times for this very reason.
The appearance of the property is very attractive. The cluhouse is nice but overstated and overrated, and recent rent increases are being used to pay for it. Parking availability is very poor, and during the summer people won't park in the garage and park two cars in the tiny parking lots, further crowding things. Also Inver grove heights has a no parking policy during the winter betweeb 3AM and 6AM on any city street, including Ashley Lane. If you drive anything bigger than a Honda Accord or Chevy Malibu, you will have problems just fitting in the parking spaces in the garages.
Southview gables is owned by Dominium, a huge corporate apartment complex company. Once again you get the Wal-mart treatment. Ever try to call a phone, electric, credit card compant to question a bill' You get put on hold for 20-30, with the hopes that you will just go away. Likewise the treatment of residents here. The employees at their leasing offices are simply a bunch of "yes-men", er... "yes-women" to be politically correct. They are friendly and helpful until you sign your papers, and after that could care less about you.

This resident is right on about Southview Gables. It is poorly maintained and a poor value. The head maintenance guy has a bad attitude about his work. The owners are slum lords and getting rich off the high prices without replacing old, noisy, inefficient appliances, plumbing, fixtures, etc. If you are over 30, you will be dissappointed here. It is a 20-something complex with many noisy cars and noisy young people. The leasing office said they are not section 8, but I believe they lied.

The building is heated by hot water boilers, not electric heat. Most of the staff is doing the best job the company allows them to do, and I would have to say you are getting what you pay for. You have no other options for a more affordable place to rent in the area. SouthView Gable's management and Dominium can't control the fact the state and fed. governments force companies to not discrimminate against people with children, or anyone else for that matter.
Buy a house and see how often you replace your appliances. If you are looking for everything brand new all the time you are going to be paying twice as much as you currently pay in rent each month.
And regarding Section 8. SouthView Gable's does not accept any new applicants, they do have a few resident left that have been on section 8 for 5yrs or more. As they move out, no new Section 8 resident are allowed to move in.
