Unbiased review

Okay so this is going to be a 100 percent to my memory review of everything that went on when I lived there. When I moved in I was able to talk to Ed directly and he was very personable. I had 3 roommates under a family style lease for 9 months (he allowed me to do a 9 month lease instead of the usual 12) so I had to make many visits and even more tours which they had no problem doing. So papers were signed and parents said their goodbyes to their kids and we embarked on our first out of the house living experience. Immediately I found out one of my roommates was using marijuana in her room and I was upset with that because I and my other 2 roommates were avid supporters of the zero tolerance drug policy. I said I wanted her out for her flagrant disregard for the rest of us (zero tolerance would have meant all of us would have been evicted and credit scores damaged if he had found out without us telling him.) He immediately told us that we were protected against that and that he would take the necessary precautions to protect us in court with statements if the roommate would have taken action against us for the eviction. The roommate's drug dealer cousin immediately took up arms and called people from Duluth, claiming they were going to "set me straight for messing with her cousin." Ed didn't miss a beat by having both of them banned from the premises with orders of protection, and had a unit of the Inver Grove PD patrol for the rest of the night. I had a replacement roommate lined up and the staff ran the credit check in a day and we had him moved in the same day. Ed was very flexible with rent payment (giving us a few days here and there to get the rent checks in) and was quick to send his live in maintenance guy around whenever I had a problem (Chris was experimenting with protein diets which ended up in a toilet overflow that crept into the kitchen) and it was taken care of immediately. The bathroom fan stopped working and I reported it, it was fixed within a week. They gave us permission to hang a plasma TV on the wall with heavy duty screws. The noise complaints are true, you can hear some things through the walls but it should be expected when everyone has a stereo and everyone thinks their song is the best. I was visited by the noise enforcement guys once when my movie wasn't playing very loud. Other than that the neighbors were seldom out and I liked the smell of mexican food when I walked in the building. The vending machines worked on and off but it wasn't a huge deal. Parking garages are kinda ghetto, patches and holes are everywhere and they are all manual doors, the keys don't always work. Inconvenient to use during the winter and there were potholes in the driveway (though they were fixed after I moved out.) Vandalism happened as my one roommate was a target of ignorant pranks and her car was spray painted. The police work on that was lackluster at best. The cable is free cuz the company never shuts it off fully. As far as student living is concerned, if you take the time to be conversational outside of complaining, Ed and the rest of the staff are great people that will take care of your basic needs just fine and usually will have a good sense of humor about things. Rent with confidence but know that you're renting a semi dive replica of a dorm and you can expect some unusual things and yes the door locks are easily broken past in the apartments but the hall doors are deadbolts so having other roommates break in is the only concern. Renter's insurance is cheap and a good idea.
