Tolerable for college living if you like smelly neighbors

I lived in highland hills for 2 years while in college. For the first year I lived in a 3 bedroom, which was great overall. The kitchen was TINY - way too tiny for 3 people. However, having washer/dryer was great and for the price it was decent. Oh, but the day we moved in, there was a dead bat in the hallway in front of our neighbor's apartment. Hmm, what a welcoming!

The second year I lived in a one bedroom. It was a nightmare. The people who lived below us were so loud and obnoxious. Loud music at all hours - and I mean ALL hours. 2am, 8am, didn't matter. To make matters worse, a total ghetto/gangster guy lived right next door and was also extremely loud and was very creepy. Then, across the hall there was a "family" of middle-eastern people. Ok, this was a ONE bedroom apartment, and there were - no joke - at least 10 different people coming and going from there all the time. Not scary drug dealing or anything, just one of those huge extended families that somehow managed to pack into a little one bedroom apartment (illegally I might add, since obviously they weren't all on the lease). Oh and the SMELL...you know what I'm talking about. The ghetto/gangster guy smelled really bad too. I was embarrassed to have people over at my apartment, to be honest. To top it all off, there was a crazy older lady that lived across the parking lot and always hung out by the dumpster. Obviously she wasn't all there in the head....she'd walk around talking to herself wearing '80s trailer trash clothing. You could also hear her yelling to herself from the parking lot. Overall, the apartments are ok for COLLEGE living, but be ready for noisy, drunk neighbors and probably drug dealing too. Also beware of crime - my friend's bike was vandilized (actually someone had tried to steal it and couldn't break through the lock, so they bent the wheel out of frustration). The office staff is so-so. The manager lady was very nice, but there was a fat bitchy lady that was quite rude. Right across from campus though, that part was great!!!
