Stay away from this place. If you like getting your vehicle vandalised and nothing done about it, then this is your place to live. There is supposedly on-site security personel, but I have never once seen them. Also if you really enjoy having the staff and management come into your apartment unannounced whenever they feel like it for whatever reason(read the details on your lease agreement, they can bring potential renters into your apartment whenever they want, even if you are not there, to show people all your stuff) then you can not beat Highland Hills Apartments. Parking is generally good. You tend to get a spot within 50 feet of your apartment, but when people from the eastern most apartments drive and park in your lot to walk to class, they tend to fill up pretty fast, and you can end up being several hundred feet away. Not that i care about having to walk that far, but since vandalism seems to be a common theme around here, i now try to park my car as close to my window as I can to that i can videotape it during the night. They recently remodeled the laundry rooms, and in order to protect their investments, installed three cameras in each room. Totally understandable, but would be nice if they cared even the slightest in curbing a fraction of the crime that is committed everywhere else on the premisses and installed some cameras overlooking the parking lots. Also A limited selection when it comes to cable and internet. The only option I have in my apartment is through KMS television. It costs over $80 a month for both services. I get about 40 channels, including 4 HBO channels, and internet that could be rated as sub par at best, when it works, as it seems that whenever there is a single cloud in the sky, it blocks the signal and the internet is down. After the second time my car was vandalised, the officer that showed up to take the report even told me that these places were trash and that I should do my best to get out of here. He said that they routinely respond to these premisses for a multitude of calls. If that does not summerize everything I think about the quality of these apartments, then I do not know what else could. It is obvious that all the managers really care about is the amount of money they can make will just barely keeping up the maintainence to keep these places from closing. I have had water pouring through my ceiling on two seperate occasions. The roofers commented that they had told them they needed to replace to roofs, but management insisted on keeping it cheap and instead told them to just do the cheap patch. I hate this place, incase you couldn't tell!!!

UNFORTUNATELY, my friends conned me into getting an apartment with them at Highland this next school year. Had I read these reviews I woudln't have thought twice about saying no. In any case, I was wondering about internet service. Do you absolutely HAVE to go through KMS? It seems expensive for what seems like sh*tty service.

As far as I know the if you live in the brick buildings you have to get KMS. I do not know about the other buildings. You may be able to get charter if you live those. Either way expect to be seriously disappointed. I would have written more about the total expense of just how much a hated this place, but there are plenty of other people on here that seem to already share the exact same feelings as me. Enjoy your year in the --------, and then get out as soon as you can. I suggest Dublin Road Townhomes. They are out by Madison East, just before the big rivene?. They are nice two story places that are two or three bedrooms with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and just a huge upgrade overall, and they also include a garage per apartment. I lived there my last year in Mankato and wish I would have known about them rightaway. Look them up on rent.com and you get a $100 visa card for going through them.
