Greengate is a good community to live in.

I've read all of the reviews here and frankly, I'm astounded at the negative tone. As a renter most of my adult life, I've seen some really bad places. In fact, we moved here to get out of a real stinker of a property.

I'd like to take a moment to address all of the negative comments about this property.
1. Washers and dryers-C'mon folks, if you don't follow the guidelines listed on the machines themselves, of course they will break down! I realize that you can't be responsible for how your neighbors use the machines but it IS an apartment complex where you have to use the communal facilities occasionally. As far as the ventilation problems, we have to consider the fact that this place was built in the 60's and you can't expect the standards of those days to match the needs/use of these days. If the new owners were to tear out all the ventilation systems and replace them, I guess you'd all be complaining about the demolition and reconstruction instead of being happy that it was being fixed to your satisfaction.

The parking/plowing-Again, built in the 60's. It's not the current owners fault that the driveways were laid the way they are. If people would drive at the mandated speed limit stated in their resident handbooks (10 mph) there wouldn't be an issue with the driveways. As for the limited parking for one of the buildings, I'm assuming you all took a tour of the property before you moved in. You can see with your own eyes how limited the parking is on one end of the complex. If I were in your shoes, I would have recognized this issue and requested placement in one of the other buildings where there is more parking available. Now, the snow removal issue...again, policy is clearly stated in the handbook and in my several years living here, that policy has never been violated. Notices are posted well in advance of when plowing will take place. Sidewalks have been shoveled and salted when needed. It is not the fault of the current owners that sometimes it keeps snowing and has to be reshoveled at a later time. We do live in Minnesota, people.

Maintenance-If there is a maintenance problem, you have to follow procedure. If the job isn't done to your satisfaction, there are options ie calling the office to report you displeasure, contacting the BBB if you get no results, etc. Calling the office and screaming, cursing and belittling the staff will NOT get you the desired results. We have never had a problem with maintenance here. We do understand that some issues are not top priority but will be taken care of in a timely manner.

Staff-What people don't seem to realize is that managing an apartment comples IS a business for them. They deal with everything by the book and in a businesslike manner. How are they supposed to react to residents storming into the office screaming and threatening. If you act like a respectful adult, you get treated like one, plain and simple. We've been through several managers here and have genuinely liked all of them. Mind your P's and Q's and there shouldn't be any issues.

Overall, living in the Greengate Community has been a wonderful experience and we plan on staying here for quite a while. Yes, you get the occasional "looloo" neighbor but that happens anywhere you rent. Heck, it even happens if you are a homeowner in a residential neighborhood. The property is as clean and well maintained as can be expected and the staff are courteous and helpful. It seems to me that most of the complainers simply don't want to be held accountable for their own actions which nullifies their right to complain right there. The price we pay for the apartment is comparable if not better than other nearby apartments. The size of these units alone could fetch a higher price. Yes, the rent goes up occasionally, but that is a simple matter of economics and inflation. We love living here and since we don't mind following the rules, it has been a very pleasant experience and business relationship.

I'm truly sorry that you had a bad experience but with all due respect, I'm highly offended at your accusations of my not being a current renter here. I am not a "shill" nor is what I wrote a "crock". I simply stated my views of this property and its current owners and management. If you are angry with these people, by all means, keep attacking them in the juvenile manner which have so far taken but please do not attack me. Several of the other longer term residents will agree that this is a genuinely nice community as far as apartments go. I find it interesting to note that in all of your anger, you didn't pursue a court case with them. It seems that you are unwilling to follow through other than trying to sabatoge them in a very anonymous way. Yes, I'm choosing to remain anonymous also but it is more out of fear of misguided retribution from those who carry a grudge. Again, I'm sorry you had a personal bad experience but when it all comes down to brass tacks...nobody HAS to live here. There are plenty of others in the northeast suburbs to choose from. I respectfully request that you no longer attack me personally. Thank you.

I am sorry you got offended. I am not sure what your definition of juvenile is, but having a complaint with a business/someone does not make me immature/juvenile. I am vocal and am not afraid to voice my opinions in fear of making waves. Honor and respect are earned, not given freely. Here is a definition for you: ju??ve??nile adj. 1. Not fully grown or developed; young. 2. Of, relating to, characteristic of, intended for, or appropriate for children or young people: juvenile fashions. 3. Marked by immaturity; childish: juvenile behavior. See Synonyms at young. Your thoughts on Greengate remind me of those bumper stickers that say, "If you are not annoyed, you are not paying attention." My wife and I approached them with respect and "maturity" and they could not respond in kind. I tried to catch flies with honey, but all I got was stung. So, I forwent the niceties and treated them as they treated me: terse, curt and defensively. I met some great people while living there and steered clear of the scary ones. I know it's a rental property and you run into all sorts. Some good and some bad! As far as filing a lawsuit, that costs money which was being used to save up for a house so we could get away from the management company. Notice I say Mgm't Co. and not tenants. I have no problem with the tenants save the people below us who were loud until 3am on some weekend nights and smoked cigarettes as if they were going to be outlawed the next day. A court case would have just made things worse and drawn out which was not our intent. As far as retribution goes, I am not sure what you are afraid of, usernames are just that and users of the site cannot contact you by your username. Guess this "internets" thing is still new to you. You are right though. Nobody has to live there. That's why we moved. I used this site to show what a horrible place Greengate is becoming and want others to steer clear and save themselves the same hassles we went though.
