UPI is a disgusting horror of a rental company. I will not make this entry long, but if you are interested in the following things, do not for any reason rent from UPI....
Heat when it's cold, ac when it's hot, post-70's carpets, caretakers with IQ's reaching the triple digits (not to be rude, but I'm pretty sure that our current caretaker, Greg actually has some form of developmental disability), any form of emergency service, working elevators that have not been defecated in, a lobby free from native american heroin addicts that sneak in behind others, etc. etc. (No need to use your imagination).
Unfortunately (due to financial trouble), I've been here for quite some time. Like the other tenants I've noticed the decline in service and so on. I can't wait to leave this sorry excuse for a building. Even the two buildings next to us are wonderful. Met lots of friends here through shared pain from the horrible living situation.
It's the type of place where blacked out frat boys pull the fire alarm twice a month at 3AM. I've seen lots of people leave on stretchers from drug overdoses. There was once a sniper who was going to shoot a man on the 9th floor of our building. Two creeps were arrested for manufacturing hard drugs (meth, which could've destroyed the whole building and killed us all). There is really no need to write anything more about this building.
Thank you for your time,
An anonymous, highly educated person who has lived in several areas in the country.

leaving is hard with UPi. they hit you with several whammies. on my lease it asks for 60 day notice, commitment to full time lease or $500 break lease fee and, you must give 60 day notice previous to the end of whatever current form of lease they gave you or they will automatically renew it for you. if you do break lease you are still liable for rent. if they do rent to another person, but at a lower $$$$ amount you are committed to making up the difference for the rest of your lease, etc., etc. their lease is horrible and illegal. next time i won't trust people handing me 8 sheets of paper to sign! then they charge a $200 administration fee when you do decide to move out. in the 2 months that you have given notice you get charged $100 if you have laundry out that is not in your dresser/closet or if you have dishes out plus a fee/hr. garbage fee, etc., etc. so many fees! what the heck did i get myself into?!?! **from another UPi tenant tho at a different property.** |

i'm the building manager. i do NOT have a developmental disability (fyi author, i think that it's the HIGHER the iq score, the smarter the person). you've lived here for years so yes, there was a time when this building was really bad. about 3-4 years ago i believe. but there was a huge eviction that took place, which got most of the problems out. at Christmas, i received a card and candy from tenants that put their rent in escrow. i also have comments from tenants that say "things happen, not always your fault", "thanks for giving us an opportunity to vent" "thanks for all you do". this is from a survey that i personally initiated and created. i'm glad that others don't share your opinion. i hope that your financial situation improves, so that you can move. though there are some kernels of truth in what you're saying, your post does more harm than good, as does your tenancy. since 4/05, there has been one fire alarm that has gone off (mechanical), one tenant that died from an overdose (the overdose didnt happen here either), zero drug busts and no police monitoring due to a possible sniper. 612 871 4246. any prospective tenants with ?'s/concerns, more than welcome to call.
