Worst Place I've Ever Lived In And Getting Worse

I could write a book about this place. Be extremely careful if you look at an apartment here. They'll steer you to the worst one they have and make it sound like it's great. I made that mistake first off. What the first review wrote is absolutely true. If you are ----------------- (I'm not) you can forget about applying here. They won't return your call and I once heard the building manager saying she won't rent to --------- to another tenant. Beware.
Original owner raised rent 8 to 10% a year for the first three years. He did this because he believed it would be hard for me to rent elsewhere being a minority. So he took full advantage of that (as did the elderly ------ building manager). My apartment came with a parking space, but because I didn't have a car the first year I was here, it was quietly given to another tenant without notice, without a chance to get a car, or an adjustment in rent. Blatantly illegal. When I asked about it
the building manager told me if don't have a car, you can't have a parking space.
It's illegal to modify the rental agreement without consent of both parties. Another ripoff, but in her world perfectly OK. My space was given (or rented) to another tenant and even though the apartments seem to turn over every year, I was never given the chance ot have a space again. They'll say or do anything to rent apartments and it's often not true.
A new owner bought the building and he rents to anyone who can pay. There are lots of 20 something brats in the building being financed by their parents. They have no regard for anyone else and make constant noise 24/7. Those apartments always have 2-3 people living in them working multiple jobs at all hours, so it's constant noise coming and going, TVs, stereos, and video games.
Everytime one of the washers or dryers breaks, it's replaced with a new one and a 30-40% price increase. At time of writing it costs 3.00 to do a single load of wash. And the owner makes sure you can only get cold water in the washers. Anytime they can cheap out on something they do.
Maintenance is always done on your time (weekends or after 6pm) and the idiot repair man will work in until 10 to 11pm at night if you permit it. They forget that many of us have fulltime jobs and need to get up in the moring. A major repair may take weeks to complete because he only works parttime. He botched plumbing repairs and appliance repairs in my apartment. I did it myself and spent 300 in part to fix my stove. No offer to reimbursement for my costs either. If ou ask to get anything replaced, the building manager acts like it's coming out of her pocket personally and just "forgets" about it and does nothing.
The hallways are filled with second hand smoke and it comes into the apartments. Since the building has so many 20 somethings, approximately 90% of the tenants chain smoke 24/7. Definitely a risk to your health.
The building isn't managed at all. If you have a noise issue, they tell you to call the police. That's fine if it's a party or something serious, but not if it's some brat next door with their TV cranked so loud they can hear it throughout their apartment. They refuse to take care of any of these issues. All they care about is getting a rent check. Their attitude is: "If you don't like it, move."
If you read the CARAG Crime Report in the Southwest Journal, you'll see that cars are often stolen from the street behind this apartment. Cars in the parking lot are frequently broken in to. One tenant was robbed at the bus stop in front of the building going to work. And three years ago, a guy was shot on the street behind
coming from Famous Daves. It's not a safe neighborhood, yet the building manager will deny any of this ever happened. The adjoining house was condemned in 2007
as it was being run as a crack house and brothel. Not safe at all. I've also
had my mail box broken into in the past ten days and my mail searched for checks
or valuables.
This place is a rip off and even brainless 20 something college students shouldn't consider it.
