Uggghh. Had I known that it would be like this, I would have not moved. The walls are solid, so you don't get to hear the Section 8 neighbors fighting and throwing things. And it is close to downtown.
Now the bad. Section 8. Drug dealers that live in the building that are not dealt with.
This alone requires its own section. If you look like a girl from The Boom Boom Room, you get a spot. This is given out by management preference. There are people that have lived in the building for over a year, and they are on "the list", but SEVERAL people that park in the back of the building have been there less than a year.
Bring the pepper spray if you come in after dark. You may run into homeless people that have snuck in, or are let in by people.
It isn't uncommon to see people sleeping in the lobby. One guy told me that "Well, it is a hotel."

I do know what you mean. I use to live there myself and I could not believe the type of people Mary was renting to. On the other hand I've heard the Belmont it used to be a very nice apartment until the housing welfare decided to use the building. Even when I use to sit out side the sebastian joe's cafe I would see people coming out of Belmont looking like zombies who were I'm sure Medicated. Oh will I guess that's life when you rent from an apartment that is run under subsidized housing. |

I totally agree. I used to live there and moved as soon as the Section 8 degenerates started to move in. What a waste of a perfectly (used to be) nice building! That is what North Minneapolis and the number 5 bus line is for!!!

What makes you think you are better than other people who live in the Belmont? I mean, you too qualified under the financial guidelines and benefitted from the cheaper rent, right? What did you expect to move into - a homogenous building full of people just like you? I currently live in the Belmont and value competetive rent (allowing me a chance to save) and minimal annual rent increases which do not even come close to keeping up with inflation. I am also concerned by the insinuation that "poor people" should be kept in North Minneapolis and not given a chance to improve their quality of life by living in a location with more opprotunity. Very few people make the choice to receive government subsidies or to live in bad or dangerous situations, which is why I appreciate the Belmont's commitment to affording individuals a fresh start in a great community. Finally, I have NEVER encountered a homeless person in the building or felt a resident should not have been rented to because they were "on drugs" or "dangerous".

I Very much agree with the first two Responses. Yes Belmont was once a Very high Class Beautiful Apartment and when the State housing decides to take over the buildings beauty slowly felt apart. And for you who seem to have pity on ones who are able to work and take advantage of our government you need to think very clear before typing your comments. By the way in your comment "Very few people make the choice to receive government subsidies or to live in bad or dangerous situations"!! Those PPL stay on welfare with there lazy A** for rest of there life. Stop feeling sorry for yourself.

To Sharon46:
Your bigotry--by which I mean your dehumanizing attitudes toward other human beings--is atrocious. Perhaps considering your own substandard command of the English language, you should be thankful that you don't need government assistance yourself.

This is to everyone who has made negative posts about homeless people and people who receive rental subsidies:
It is obvious to me from the language that you use when describing residents of the Belmont who receive rental subsudies that you lived in a box (and still do in theory) before moving there.
It's a shame that in this day and age people still allow themselves to be frightened by the prospect of dealing with someone who is different from them , or with experiencing a little adversity. The suburbs is for people like you who like to live in an area where the people, the houses, and the cars all look alike. BORING!!!
Everyone on welfare is not a lazy loser who wants to live off of the system and you should do some homework before making such blanket statements about any group of people. Oh...and learn how to spell.
Furthermore, it is a shame that we live in a world that expects everyone to function on the same level. That is not reality. As someone who has experienced homelessness as well as someone who is an advocate for people experiencing homelessness it inrages me to hear people like you spread such ignorant venom based on personal bias.
I (as well as many other people I know from the street) am an extremly intelligent, enterprising, hardworking, and respectable human being who happens to need a hand up right now. People who are homeless, and people who receive housing subsidies are just as diverse as the rest of the world. PICK UP A BOOK AND READ!!!! Or...better yet, pull your head out of your ass long enough to realize that you are no better than anyone else. You might be surprised at what you learn about humanity if you stop being such a close minded coward.

Haaaaaahahaha yes I forgot the welfare part, Belmont is well known as the #1 Welfare crack house, including tenets with sever mental illness who been living their God knows how long. No wonder the Management does not want to renovate the building. I'd say since the management dose not want to put money on fixing the building let the whole building come down by it self.

I agree with Sharon46 I lived in Belmont long time before the section8 moved in. So for those of you who have post your comment like you cigale75 it looks like you are one the ones who owns a section 8 VLTCHR and only sitting around with your SSI CK every day and feel sry for yourself. My only words to PPL like YOU are "GET A LIFE".
The last but not the least I have met Mary Lies and I occasionally do run into her, all I can say the woman she is just as guilty and as bad as these tenants like cigale75. I had never liked the woman and I hope that she will be removed from The Belmont, I do know once that happens a positive shift will take place in The Belmont. Keep in mind I am not the only person who dose not like Mary specially in the Kenwood neighborhood.
