I first moved to the Hennepin/Franklin area a little under 4 years ago and was surprised by how much I liked the area - nestled between Uptown, Downtown, Lake of the Isles it is convenient to EVERYTHING! Additionally, it is walking distance from two great grocery stores, the Walker, Loring Park, Lyn/Lake, Uptown and one of the most desireable neighborhoods in Minneapolis (Kenwood) and convenient to many bus lines for those who are environmentally conscious. While getting to enjoy Minneapolis from this location is the best part of the experience, the building and apartment also have their own charm and, for $800/mo for a two bedroom, the price cannot be beat! The space has it's quirks but it also has an interesting story (used to be an old hotel and then was turned into an apartment for artists and musicians in the 1940s), which adds character and history. My apartment has a unique, but functional layout with plenty of storage. There is a party room in the basement that is available but it is virtually impossible to hear noise from inside other's apartments. I have never heard noise from an adjacent apartment in mine in the year I've lived in the Belmont. As for safety, with Sebastian Joe's open until late located right across the street, I have never been too concerned. It is important to remember, however, the Belmont is located in a city and close to many night-life destinations so one should be aware and careful. It is the location, as I stated before, that part of what makes the Belmont so awesome. Lastly, the building keeps rent low and only accepts renters who fall within a certain salary range and note: I say WITHIN, not UNDER, so it's not a "poor house". It tends to draw renters from all walks of life, ability and age. If you arent interested in living with people who may be different than you (which to some people, for some reason, is VERY SCARY...) then dont move to the Belmont - we dont want you anyway!
