The office staff has been friendly enough to me, but I did feel deceived. I moved in at a discounted rate ($800 for what was listed as a $1010 place at the time), and I specifically asked ----- when I signed the lease whether this discount would continue through the next few years. He said that it would, although if the regular rent went up, it might go up by "$10 or so". The next year they tried to charge me $950! Apparently "$10 or so" means "$150". I talked them down to $900, but then the following year was back up to $950. Still a discount, but not enough of a discount for me to afford.
The elevators are THE WORST I have seen in any building downtown. One of them was broken for months this year, and often they'll have a couple out of commission at a time. There are hoards of people waiting after work between around 5:30 and 6:30. It's ridiculous. In the morning, I'll sometimes wait for 10 minutes to catch one that's jam-packed with people from upstairs. I wish there was some sort of timer so that you could decide whether it's more worth it to take the stairs!
I found maintenance to be timely and efficient except for my dishwasher, which was clearly beyond repair and which took them a year and a half to replace after 10 consecutive fix-it requests for the same problem (not working and water flooding the kitchen).
The exercise room looks nice, but the equipment is too often broken. It took them over a year to replace a treadmill that would stop abruptly, throwing the runner off the back. This was despite repeated complaints from tenants who had fallen from it. The television buttons are usually broken, so you often cannot change the channel -- however, I'm not going to blame management for this, as I think that there's some jerk who just keeps breaking the TV. It's too consistent for coincidence. There are some real weirdos (men) who work out in that room, mostly late at night.
There's no real say on who enters and who doesn't. I didn't have a buzzer to let people in, so my friends would just show up and linger by the door until a tenant entered, following him in. I saw other people doing this all the time. I wonder how security knows who is a legitimate visitor and who shouldn't be tailing his way in. I used to go running with my apartment key in my shoe, leaving my Churchill fob behind, and just walk through the door downstairs and head up to my apartment!
