Three words: Expensive, Loud,

I don't know where the person that wrote the last review was living, but it couldn't be at the Melrose! First of all, it feels like a hotel or an institution, not a place to live! It is furnished, but the furniture looks and feels like furniture you'd find in an outdated dentist office reception area. (That is not trendy or gorgeous to me!) There are parties, loud music, and beer bottles everywhere. I realize that mostly students live here, but I feel like I'm at a hotel in Cancun during Spring Break! I'm paying a lot of money to live at a place that I thought would be worth it. Don't be fooled! Oh, and they conveniently forgot to tell me that NONE of the windows open!!! We get no fresh air in our apartment, it gives the entire building a stale smell, and during the summer we have to have the air-conditioner running all of the time just to feel comfortable! It gets expensive!
The people in the office usually dont have an answer for anything, and they jack you around for a long time until you get anything taken care of.
As for the fitness center, equipment is always broken. The computer lab is less than desirable and they nickle and dime you for everything. All of the extras here cost extra.
I would recommend talking to other people that live here before signing anything. The leasing people make it sound great but they don't tell the whole truth!

It has been a while since this review was posted, however, many things have changed. We work hard to ensure Melrose has the appearance and service of a first rate hotel, while still maintaining a comfortable community that our residents are proud to call home. We have made a change in our furniture package since the building opened, and we find students even asking to purchase the furniture from us when they leave (sorry, this typically is not an option we can accommodate). All campus communities will have some degree of gatherings that will, on occasion, get a bit loud. We have however taken a number of efforts to resolve and prevent those issue from getting out of hand including both a Community Ambassador and a Courtesy Officer conducting nightly rounds. Regarding windows, a city ordinance relating to buildings over four stories constructed in recent years prevents any mid-rise building of this type from having windows that open. We have a system which draws fresh air into the apartments constantly. Residents here get clean filtered air moving into their apartment without having to think of opening a window. We have heard frustrations similar to this former resident's and have responded by eliminating any need to pay for standard "extras," While those who choose to utilize our tanning beds will pay a nominal fee for use, things like the fitness center, cable TV, and even internet are included. Additionally, we now feature the inclusion of an electricity allowance. No apartment community is perfect, but the way we get better is by hearing resident issues and having an opportunity to respond to them. If you have any concerns about Melrose, please let us know, and we will do our best to address each situation to ensure your community is one that you are proud to live in. |
