Convenient

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
I had to move to Minnesota for one year to do some post-grad work. Being that I was only here for a year, I didn't want to buy furniture. The Melrose was a very convenient option. I lived in the "grad/prof" tower, and there was basically no noise any time during the week. The apartment building, as a whole, was very quiet. I also used the roommate matching option and was lucky to be matched with a good roommate.
Pros:
-It's in a decent neighborhood, right next to the freeway.
-The furniture was not bad at all
-Everything was brand new
-They clean the apartment building every day
-There's lots of security
-The gym is very good for an apartment building
-It comes with cable tv/internet all ready to hook up
-The staff, while not the most professional, is available 7 days.
-There's someone at the front desk 24 hours a day, and will handle mail packages when you are not there.
-Some people enjoy the other amenities (i.e. the computer room, game room, movie theater), although I never found a need
-The washer/dryer inside the apartment is great
-Whenever there's a repair-type problem, they are very prompt in fixing it.
- The coffee shop is very nice to have, especially in the winter when you might not want to go outside. Although the quality and price of the actual coffee is mediocre, the convenience of having it in the building outweighs these things.
Cons-
-The bedrooms/bathrooms are small
-There's no built-in closets in the bedrooms, only added furniture-type closets.
-The windows do not open for whatever reason
-The parking is fairly expensive ($90 per month for inside parking), although its great to even have a heated parking option that lots of buildings don't have.
-The one-bedroom option is super-expensive
Overall, I've been very satisfied with my stay at the Melrose and would recommend it. I really appreciate the new/clean state of the building and lots of the extras (i.e. 24-hour front desk and modern gym) really come in handy. I also liked the location- close to the freeway and 5 minutes from downtown Minneapolis.
