Melrose will do anything they can to get money from you. There are so many hidden fees that you can get its pretty unbelievable. They are terrible about move out and a very clean apartment will probably cost you over a 100 dollars in cleaning fees from the building. Parking is extremely expensive and there are often people that will park in your spot. Cars that are parked on the street near there are broken into all the time. The rooms are really small and the washer/dryers hardly function at all. This isn't even just one room, I have lived in four different apartments within Melrose. Everyone I know that has lived there says their ice from the freezer smells terrible to the point where you don't even want to you use it. There are two study rooms in the entire apartment which you can hardly ever get into which aren't even worth using because there is always a crowd of smokers right outside being extremely loud. I have seen this place get flooded a few times from apartments on higher floors and everyones stuff gets ruined which will cost you money and melrose won't pay a dime. Electricity will cost you a ton. My roomates and I were gone for a whole month during Christmas and our heat was off and everything else too and somehow our electricity bill was still $50 a person. We told them we weren't going to pay it and they said if we didn't it would come out of the security deposit.
There vaccumes dont work at all so don't even try to use them. They will literally make your apartment more dusty and gross.
Whatever they say it will cost you to live here is a lie. You have to figure at least an extra $50, if not more, a month for everything they will try to charge you with including lost keys, getting locked out of your apartment, tanning, parking, electricity, sublet fees are $250, cleaning charges on move-out, and whatever else they can take advantage of you for.
Overall I would say that the problem behind this place is the management which is the same despite what recent reviews may say about it being a different time now. The rooms themselves are not that bad and it is a close location for going to the U, but be prepared to pay for it. Most students will go broke trying to live here unless your parents have a lot of money or you have a lot of extra loan money for rent.
