MANAGEMENT STAFF IS HORRIBLE--OVERCHARGE FOR SERVICES AT TIME OF MOVE-OUT

I lived here for 2 years and loved it, until I moved out. The management staff is completely horrendous. I relocated for a job and had to move 2 weeks to move. I contacted multiple people at the office to tell them of my leaving and asked if there was anything I needed to do prior to move out. I was told to fill out a piece of paper and turn in my keys at the time of move-out. I flew back up for one day after moving to Ohio to meet the movers and move my stuff out. I came back to find that they had been in my apartment almost 10 times showing it to people. I mailed the keys in to the office after moving out since the office was closed by the time the movers left. I received a letter in the mail stating the charges that I owed money after moving out. I was being charged $75 for not returning my keys!! I then called and explained to them how I had sent my keys in. They said that they had only received my key FOB and not the 2 keys that were put in the envelope as well, so I still owed $50 for keys that I mailed in the same exact envelope as what they received!! The manager then told me that they had not been able to show my apartment without my keys--which was a total lie, considering they had been showing it before I had moved out and had my keys in OH with me. I WAS NOT given a cleaning checklist upon move-out and was charged $25 for not cleaning the fabric softener cup in the washing machine, $15 for them wiping off the inside top of my dishwasher, $20 foe cleaning the oven (the general manager, Amy Ericksen, said that I had to pay since she "personally had to push the self-clean button" on the oven. I was charged $50 for them to vacuum an 800 square foot apartment. I was unable to vacuum after the movers packed my things b/c they packed up my vacuum!! The charges go on! There were some charges that I took responsibility for, but since I did not receive a cleaning checklist at my time of move-out, I did not know the extent to which the apt. had to be cleaned. I cleaned the basic things. I FINALLY got ahold of the general manager after almost 2-3 months of trying to contact her. She only returned my calls when I followed up with other people in the office explaining that she had not called me back for over 2 weeks each time. She was completely rude on the phone, she yelled at me, and then hung up on me. She also told me that she personally sent me a cleaning checklist AFTER I MOVED OUT, and even though she knew she sent it after I moved out, I was still responsible for everything on the list. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW'!' She then told me that it was my responsibility to make sure EVERYONE in the office knew I was moving out--I'm sorry but I think telling one person was sufficient enough considering that is all that should need to be communicated. I actually informed 3-4 people of my move-out. I was completely appalled at how I was treated considering I always paid on time and I attempted to do everything they wanted before moving out. This is a nice place to live, but the stress it caused me afterwards was not worth it. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

As the manager of Excelsior and Grand, I want to say that what Courtney has stated about what was said in our phone conversation is simply not true. It is unfortunate that a resident who is upset with me because she moved out and left her apartment in a substandard condition, can come on this website and post false accusations of our conversation.
Sincerely,
Amy Ericksen
General Manager

Staff members should not be allowed to post on this site. I am not a resident or fromer resident of this apt, but a former resident of another apt in Mntka, and this sounds much like what we went through when we moved out. Must be a apt managers thing between them, to see how bad they can be to former residents and how much money they can keep from the deposit, oh and a so called 'move in fee'of $150 that is non refundable. We were charged and we had a professional cleaning company come in. Must be some kind of 'secret society' among apartment managers!

Just keep records of communication. Faxes work well. So do emails. Ive dealt with similar situations with other complexes. If you can prove that you communicated with them, then you have nothing to worry about. Lesson learned, right?

This same basic thing happened to me when I lived there. The management of E&G is very deceitful. Make sure to get everything in writing, since they will definitely try to screw you over.
