Lived here for almost two years....can't wait to move

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009

I've lived at Huntington Place for almost two years and it isn't the greatest place to live. In my building, a woman was stabbed by her boyfriend, another man overdosed, and a woman was assaulted by two men in one of the hallways. In another building, a female vendor was sexually assaulted and then shoved between two of the vending machines. This was in the main part of the building by the mailboxes. I've been followed into the building on two different occassions by men harrassing me. The police are there almost every day and often block people in. I was told by an officer that I shouldn't be outside after 11 p.m. because it's not safe. My apartment failed the city inspection twice and it still took them two months to come and fix things. I've also called in excess of 7 or 8 times to get my lock fixed and it hasn't been fixed yet. It was broken when I moved in almost two years ago. I've made appointments for maintenance to fix my tub when it was leaking and they didn't show up - twice without calling me. I took both of these days off of work so I would be there when maintenance came in. The water itself is so not very good - it has so many chemicals and is so hard, that it corrodes away at the faucets and leaves water stains every where. There are two laundry rooms on each floor but usually at least one of the dryers doesn't work. We've had the same broken dryer for over a year and it still hasn't been fixed. I've called the number on it and the main office about it. I don't even attempt to use my dishwasher - it leaks every where and maintenance came once to repair it and it still leaks. I've given up trying to ask them to come back to fix it.
There was a fight in my hallway one night and there are gouges/holes in the wall. I called the office to inform them and they said they would come fix it - this was over three months ago. The hallways are disgusting - the carpets are dirty and stained, the paint is old and scratched, you can see stains on the walls. Twice I've seen dog feces in the hallway. People leave their garbage outside of their apartment doors for days at a time. Often times, people will leave furniture in the hallway blocking the exits.
There are a few people in the office that are friendly but have proven to be quite worthless. Messages don't get passed on and they don't return calls. I've had packages sent back to the senders because they never notified me that they had them. Paige is a horrible leasing agent. She's rude and pushy. My friend had her and hated every moment of it. My friend moved out about four months after moving in (we moved in at the same time) because there was a fight outside of her door. When she called security, they told the people fighting who called and they spent the next month banging on her apartment door threatening her. Huntington Place refused to allow her to break her lease and she had to take it to court.
There is plenty of parking as long as they aren't plowing. The lots suck in the winter as they only plow when it snows but don't come back to put sand down so there is a good three inches of ice every where. On days that it starts to warm up, everything becomes slush but they don't plow it off so it freezes unevenly again. The grounds look very nice - there is a gazebo that you can't use because it's blocked off. There are guys out picking up the garbage everyday but they don't dump the garbages for the dog baggies very often. They can also go without bags for weeks even when I call to tell them. Now I just buy my own - it's easier that way. They are supposed to fine for not cleaning up after your dog, but it's almost impossible to catch people so every few weeks in the summer we get a letter about how we suck as residents and need to clean up after our animals or we'll all get sick...or they will take away the ability to have animals. People would probably be more likely to clean up after their pet if they had the supplies available.
I can hear everything that happens in the hallway and my neighbors play music until about 1 a.m. I'm lucky that they don't play it all night like my previous neighbors did. I don't complain about this because sometimes I can be loud so I think that's fair. You can hear dogs barking at all hours of the day/night though.

I do not live in the dog buildings so I cannot comment about that. However, I smell weed in the corridors at all times of day or night and the smell comes in under my door and I can;t stand it. I don;t call cos I know I would not get a response. Some people in my building also leave their smelly garbage outside their doors or even under the stairs waiting for someone else to shift it. The cleaners wash the main entrance floors and on many occasions I have slipped and almost fell down the stairs. I do not see the sense of the notice "floors may be wet" - yeh and slippy! It takes maintenance forever to fix a problem so I can see your point there. The laundry room in my building has lights that don;t work, the wiring is all showing in the boxes on the wall - I am sure this can be dangerous. I have called police on occasions to complain about my upstairs neighbors and fortunately they have sorted the problem out within half an hour of my call - which I certainly cannot complain about. The hallway carpets need replacing but if they are I am sure that the horrible rresidents here will soon mess them up. I have no idea how some of the people here actually qualify to live here..they are filthy and disgusting. Most of the residents do not speak English and none seem to have any respect for their neighbors. I am lucky that my neighbors on the left and right of me are never any problem whatsoever. If I could afford to move I would, but right now I can;t so I have to stay put. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, some idiots actually stole the handle to the outside door of the 09 building - for the 2nd time. That is the type of people they let live here!!! Oh, and I am sure one woman here runs her own babysitting agency..she is loud and disgusting and can;t speak a word of English . I often hear her shouting at the top of her horrible voice at night and this can be very annoying. I could go on but I won;t.

I just wanted to comment on both of these reviews, because I'm very familiar with Huntington Place. I have lived here for over a year, and have not had any issues in my apartment and think that the management staff does a good job. Yes, the hallway carpets are a little worn -- but they would look a lot better if the other residents would actually pick up after themselves and not leave trash outside. It's about common courtesy -- don't blame management for other people's issues. If you see trash in the hallways pick it up, and if you have a dog you should still be able to find something to pick up their poop even if there aren't any bags left from what management has provided. Maybe you should attend some of the crime prevention meetings if you're concerned about the crimes that happen here. Management at least cares enough to work with the police and try to cut down on the crime here. In fact, they ask that we do err on the side of caution when we are suspicious of something and would much rather have the police called than have something bad happen. I don't know who you have talked to at the police department about not going out after 11 pm, but that can be true of anywhere that you live. Crime happens everywhere.

If they cared so much about crime managment would care enough to replace the burnt out lights in the hallways, in the stairways, and in the parking lots. I have a garage so my car won't get broken in to but I don't feel very safe walking to and from it at night. I have told the office several times about the need to replace the lights on the garages. Bottom line the managment is neglagent and Page is a terrible rental agent. There are alot of douche bags living here that management can't help, but they can replace light bulbs when they burn out.
