This is a public service announcement. Do not rent here, especially if you are a pet owner!!! I was shocked by the charges Highland Management went after me for when I moved out. This is a company that will take full advantage of you if you move out of state and can't return to sue them in civil court. Never in 15 years of renting have I been treated the way Highland Management treated me!!!

This company sunk me good, for nearly $1000 to replace carpet throughout the entire unit I rented. Allegedly, they shampooed a small section of the dining area carpet then claimed it "smelled". There was no "smell" when I lived there. In fact, the building management pet-sit for me and no complaint of a smell ever surfaced during my tenancy. Also, this carpet was old and stained prior to my occupancy!

Dealing with this issue, I got one story from the building manager and another from the management company. The building manager explained the problem area was along the edge of the dining area carpet. If this alleged smell existed, the area in question (small square section) could have been replaced and certainly did not warrant recarpetting the entire unit. Certainly the carpet was not installed in one giant piece!

They claimed there were photos of the allegedly stained carpet backing but these were never made available to me. Instead they sent me photos of the surface carpet spots prior to the shampoo. When I inquired what the spots looked like following the shampoo, I learned they didn't even bother shampooing the rest of the carpet aside from the dining room. That's right - they made an executive decision to replace ALL the carpet because of one part that was allegedly ruined. When I challenged them on this point, the management company's story was that all the carpet smelled, not just the one area, contrary to the building manager's statement.

So consider yourself warned. Do not rent here or at any other Highland Management property!

Other comments on this property: walls are paper thin, you can hear people that live above you clomping around, garage flooded with any significant rainfall.
