Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007

So, i have lived here with my sister for over two years and it hasn't been all so bad. Aside from the gun shots, gangsters, crack heads, people smoking pot on our stoop, and the dog ---- that appears in our hallway from time to time. The front door to the building doesn't close all the way. I, personally have called matinence about 6 times about it and NOTHING has been done about it so now all the homeless crack heads come in and live in our basement. Our heat didn't work for three weeks last month. I called almost everyday about that. There is an almost constant stream of police and fire engine sirens going through the neighborhood. There are so many things wrong with this place. The managment seems way too young to be running this place and obviously they do a crap job. There are cracks in the walls and lead paint. Who wants alzheimer's disease'! Also, when you decide to move out, they have tours of your apartment whith perspective renters. They don't have the common courtsey to wait for you to get your stuff out. They start that about two months before you move. So, all your stuff is still there and strangers come walking through all your personal space .. oh AND, you can't be there for it. So, who knows who they have in your apartment. I think that is rude! I would say that all in all, i could deal with all this because the rent is cheap ... BUT IT'S NOT THAT CHEAP! Turn away and run!!!!!!!

The problems in stevens square are common in every major city, perhaps the suburbs would be a better fit for you. I have lived here for a year and I love it, I know most of my neighbors, many college students, musicians, artists, and the occasional crackhead are more than happy to call this place home. Most of the crime in this area is gang/drug related, just use common sense and youll be fine, Ive yet to have any problems aside from the occasional bum asking for change/cigarettes/beer, but again you will encounter that in any city. Management has been awesome to me, but if you have a reputation of constant complaining they are going to get sick of you. These buildings are almost 100 years old, things will go wrong from time to time. If city life is for you then I would highly recommend living here, my only real complaint is parking, because of our close proximity to downtown many people park here so they wont have to pay downtown, the rest of the complaints ive read on here are just nonesense, these people probably just cant handle living in the city.

I disagree with the responder. I have lived in 3 large cities, and this is not typical. Sorry.

It is the right of the property owner and caretakers to start showing your apartment as soon as they know you will be moving out. If they waited until the day you moved out, there would be a gap in between tenants, and no landlord wants this. They want to be able to fill the apartment immediately after you leave. If you don't feel comfortable with them coming into your apartment, you shouldn't live there in the first place. That means you don't trust them as your landlord. Do you trust them letting maintenance come in? This is a ridiculous concern.
