Beware of TV, Phone services

I have lived at StoneArch since it first opened. While there are many reasons I do like living there, there are also a couple things that really upset me. First off, the only type of TV you can get at StoneArch is DirecTV. If you want full DirecTV programming you have to go through a reseller called SkyPix. Because you cannot deal directly with DirecTV you miss out on special discounts and deals that they offer. On top of this you have to pay an $11.95/month "access fee" that gets you absolutely nothing other than what you would already have if you dealt directly with DirecTV - DirecTV! Additionally, there are extra setup charges for nearly everything through SkyPix (not small charges) and I cannot get HDTV programming at all.
In addition, I chose not to pay for a land line phone and only use my cell phone. Because I dont have phone service through Qwest or Campus Communications (a provider that works with StoneArch for phone and Internet that is HORRIBLE) I cannot buzz people in. I find this to be absolutely ridiculous as I have friends who live in run down apartments that pay half my rent who are able to buzz people in using a cell or VoIP phone.
You would expect a newer apartment complex to offer superior technology when it comes to phone/internet/tv but all are pure crap at StoneArch and the reason for this is that StoneArch makes extra money off of these services (especially DirecTV).
Before you sign a lease be sure to ask them about these issues. Hopefully if enough people complain they will do something about this.
