Thought I hit the jackpot, but....

I found an ad on craigslist in Nov '08 for this place and checked it out. If you signed a 12month lease you got 2months free. Sounded good to me, model home looks great. I thought the place was a little worn( needs new siding/paint, carpet in common areas worn and such) but certainly better than a lot of places I had looked at. And with the 2 free months rent, seemed like a steal. I visited twice, to try and see what the noise level was like and to see how well they had cleaned the place up b4 I moved in. Things looked good so I said yes and moved in Dec 1st.
I will say I do like all the staff and the mngr has been fine from my dealings with her. So I have been here for 6 months now. Will I be staying' No...and here's why. A couple problems right away, my dishwasher stopped working which was fixed next day, so no big deal. My shower head had been painted over by the painters and didn't spray well! which was also fixed next day...no biggie. The first time I used my oven tho, it erupted in smoke and stench like I couldn't believe. I had checked before using it and it was clean... apparently whoever cleaned it sprayed cleaner all over the elements and the only way to EVER use it was to burn it off. My entire apt was full of toxic smoke for some time that day. Then began the strange chewing noises in the ceiling....turns out I had a friend...a damn squirrel. Lol, I figured from the sound it was a squirrel and not a mouse/rat. They ended up trapping it. Somehow it had chewed a hole in the attic to get it. They handled it promptly tho so I wasn't upset. But I think it goes to the age of the place...mid 80s construction. And the biggest reason I won't be staying, the noise and the cooking smells! UGH. Now when I hear people complain about cooking odor I kinda shrug it off, but in this case NO WAY. It is so revolting at times I want to throw up. The worst part is because of the old construction it actually infiltrates into my apt...couple that with kids running and SCREAMING up and down the hallway very often (yelling at them does no good, I've tried) and the noisy neighbors I lucked out with and yeah, no thanks. , Constantly banging cupboards, my floor creaks when they walk theirs!, base from their tv into my apt, TALKING...yes I can hear them thru the wall! It's like they are my roommates or something...again all to the age/type of construction of the building. Next time it's all newer cement for me! Oh and very cold patio doors in winter also.
