Changes Happening But Changes Needed

We have been at The Cliffs since last fall. We were excited about moving her because of the reputation in the community since it was first built. We were on the 2nd floor originally and found out that the guy above us would keep around the clock hours (worked from home) and would start his television, stereo and/or game machine going from 10:30PM to after 3PM. We both work normal day hours and didn't get much sleep. We repeatedly had the police out, we tried to talk with him and we complained to the office staff. They sounded sympathetic but nothing ever changed in the 3 months that we lived in that building. We moved to another building and on the 1st floor. What a difference the bottom floor makes! We also have an end unit which means we only have one neighbor on the common wall of the livingroom. We don't hear neighbors except for the inconsiderate residents that shine their head lights into our bedroom windows at midnight and yell in the parking lot. We can live with that on the weekends. We have noticed a change in this building that it is made us of younger residents and they do things to the building - like tipping over all the shopping carts at least twice per week. Why''
The floorplans are spacious and livable but dated for the price. The carpet is usually stained when you move in but they are discussing replacement with laminated flooring. Terrific idea! Office staff is unorganized but helpful and sincere. They need a welcome packet to new residents that gives more direction as to amenitites such as using channel #6 of your television to check out the lobby door for deliveries (such as a pizza delivery) before allowing entry into the building or what digit on your phone to press when buzzing someone into the building. Maintenance staff needs direction. The turn over of the apartments are not completed prior to the resident moving in but if you give them repeated lists to complete, they do get it done. All staff is very pleasant and they do try to accomodate the residents as much as posssible with our requests. The security cameras need to be replaced and are not in workable condition in our building. The plumbing is old and the water changes from hot to very cold in a second.
Upgrading should be done soon, such as faucets could be upgraded and countertops replaced.
Now that I have listed negatives, I would like to list some positives. The grounds are well-kept and beautiful in the spring - fall. Most residents are friendly and overall we have it quiet in our part of the building. We don't hear trains, planes or automobiles when in our apartmnet and we love our large balcony. We have a washer/dryer in the apartment with workable applicances. The new pool and spa is very enjoyable. We love what they have done with the new Community Room and the decor. The hallways are not outdated and are very appealing. I hope the residents take care of it and learn to respect the surroundings.
Good luck in your search!

I am writing on behalf of a former tenant of The Cliffs. She was severely burned by scalding hot tap water in July 2007. I am investigating whether The Cliffs' management operated the hot water system responsibly. If you had concerns about the water being too hot, I would appreciate hearing from you. Phone: (612) 250-8891. E-mail: joel@KosLawFirm.com. Thank you.
