I've been looking at other locations to move to, and only after spending a little time doing that did I realize how ripped off I've been. I've been here since 2007. The website advertises their studio apartments as 540 square feet. Not even close. They also advertise the prices as being $750. I'm paying over $850 and that doesn't include utilities or internet.
The tanning bed sometimes goes a week without having the sanitizer being filled up, or paper towels being replaced. You have to go to the gym to grab the stuff and that doesn't work so well. The workout room sucks, too.
There have been so many break-ins here over the course of the past couple years. Think your car will be safe in the heated underground garage' Nope! That's where most of them have occurred! I actually park outside during the spring and summer because it's less likely to get broken into. There were also robbed apartments. Some of the neighbors were handing out flyers about what happened to them and how the staff wouldn't do anything.
The god damn alarm goes off constantly. Not the really loud one, but some smaller one. It annoys the hell out of me.
The appliances are all a matching set from 1988. I believe they're standard in most of the apartments. The microwave is awful, and I practically live on microwaveable food. The sink leaks occasionally, as well. The bathtub has some chips and cracks in it, but overall, the bathroom isn't bad. The water pressure is decent and it gets plenty hot. The cupboards, closets, and counters are all pretty cheap though, and definitely haven't been refurbished. The closet space in a studio isn't adequate for someone with even a small wardrobe, but the single and double bedrooms have decent closet space.
A wasp actually flew in through one of the vents during the summer (it actually flew right at my head when I woke up in the morning), so I had to close all the ducts except for a fraction of an inch. This made them really noisy, like a loud fan going all the time, but if you hate bees as much as I do, its worth it to not have to worry about getting stung.
The noise level is pretty good overall. The building construction isn't anything special. You can hear other appliances, people walking by, and walking around above you. I think I've been lucky to have had quiet neighbors.
I haven't had much interaction with the staff. It seems like every time I go in there, there is a whole new group of people. Haven't had any issues really, and most of the workers I've met have been really friendly. The maintenance staff is super friendly, and really go out of their way for you.
I agree with the other poster about how they definitely cheapened the look of this place by posting up huge yellow 'leasing' signs all over the property. Definitely under the impression that they're hurting for cash.
The location is great though. Target, Ridgedale Mall, and a ton of other big name stores are all within walking distance. There is a park and ride about a mile or two down the road, so transportation to downtown is pretty easily. Unfortunately, you're completely out of luck getting downtown unless it's a weekday morning or weekday evening. Hardly any buses run, and the ones that do take FOREVER to get downtown. This is actually the main reason why I'll be moving out in the spring, is because of how fed up I am with the transportation. VERY inconvenient and I work right downtown, pretty regular hours.
Overall, I'm sure there are worse places, but I would not recommend this place. It would be OK if you work in the nearby area, but honestly, if you work downtown mpls or st paul, or god forbid, another suburb, forget it! Here's how this place could be improved:
24/7 video surveillance on outdoor and indoor parking lots. Expensive to install, but not to maintain. This would definitely keep current residents and bring in more new ones.
Less effort on the outside/landscaping and more effort on upgrading the insides of apartments.
Actually do background/reference checks instead of just glancing at a computer screen and clicking ok after a second. Completely agree with another poster on this issue.
Add a little something else to the workout room. Come on, a dip bar/pullup stand is like $100 for a top of the line one!
Put the actual, real numbers on the website for both rent and square footage. False advertising is not respectful to current, future, or former residents.
Oh, almost forgot to mention this... TAKE OUT the trash! Honestly, the inside of the underground parking smells like a sewer! It's horrible in the winter, but it'll damn near kill you during the summer! Wow!
Nothing held against the current staff at all. They're very new, and I have had no problems whatsoever with them. They definitely seem like they are trying to improve things, but JPI seems to be the one at fault.
UPDATE: I just was ready to go out for the night, only to find the underground parking door jammed half-way shut. None of the buttons moved it, I couldn't push it up or down myself (and I was REALLY angry at the time!). This is one of those things that just ruins your day. The door is sooo poorly constructed, there were gross spiderwebs all over it, and it looks incredibly old and in terrible shape. How about spending less money on useless landscaping during the summer, and more on upgrading the units and facilities''

While you are stuck there, try driving to the park and ride at Hopkins Crossroads instead - the 673 runs more frequently than the 671 at the Plymouth Road park and ride and it's an express downtown.

i've been here since august and 1 break in since, and it was outside. the staff is doing the best they can, let emily know about the "unclean" situation in the tanning bed, she'll take care of it. and as far as the "big yellow signs" there are only a few, they are small, and all apartments do it. its because of the time we are in, everyone is looking for money. they are doing the best they can.
