4 years and I'm out . . .

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2009
I will parcel this review out into eight sections. Before I do, let me provide you some background information about me. I lived here in a one bedroom for four years. I was a graduate student at the time and had no pets.
1. Parking: The first four months I lived here (June 2005 - October 2005) I parked outside. The parking lot was always full after 9pm with people parking on the grass sometimes. Furthermore, we would usually receive a letter from the management about every three or four months stating that cars had been broken into and to call the police for further assistance. I decided to move my car inside the garage for an additional fee of 50.00 per month. Once you sign up for a spot you must remain there until your lease is over. You cannot simply sign up for the winter months and then move your car outside. I had four issues with my parking spot due to other people parking in my spot. There was a number to dial that the Burlington provided to call to tow vehicles but it was out of service every time. When I called the office for assistance they told me to leave a note on the windshield asking the person not to park there again. Therefore, I gave their parking a 2 out of 5 stars.
2. Noise: I lived on the pool side of the building complex. FIRST, the Burlington loves to mow their lawn. Matter fact, during the spring and summer months they will mow the lawn at least twice a week starting at 7 or 8 am. It was loud and woke me and my girlfriend up many mornings. Second, during the times when the pool was open, there was a radio that would blare loudly from 8am to 10 or even 11pm. While it's not that loud during the daytime, at night it would be annoying. Third, be prepared for other residents making a lot of noise if you choose to live on the pool side. Thanks to little kids, college students and during the busy days, it can get really, really loud.
3. Grounds: I gave them a high rating here because they keep their grounds well-maintained. Too bad the same effort isn't applied to the interior. They water their grass everyday, cut the grass twice a week and trim the flowers/trees regularly. The complex looks very nice on the outside as far as the grounds go.
4. Safety: I gave this two out of 5 only because of the warnings we would receive about four times a year stating that people's vehicles were broken into. Certain areas of the complex are dark, especially in the back buildings. Additionally, we would have solicitors knock on our door asking us to sign up for newspapers or handing us Chinese restaurant menus. Not to mention that there are certain doors in my building complex that went unlocked for months at a time. 2 out of 5.
5. Construction: Not much to say here, the building is average compared to other places I've lived. However, be prepared during the transition months of September to October and April to May. The Burlington does not control the heat or air so residents will have at least 2 months out of the year where it will be really cold or really hot. Energy Park controls the temperature and the staff will make sure you know that they have no control over it. 2/5
6. Maintenance: The maintenance staff were fairly quick to handle my issues the first time. Most of the staff are friendly and seem to know what they are doing. However, many times I've called to tell the office that many of the exercise equipment machines were broken. Again, they would tell me they have no control over it and that they are leased to them. There have been at least two occasions where I almost broke my neck on the treadmill and it still is broken to this day. The exercise room is a tort case ready to happen. 3/5
7. Staff: It's a hit or miss with the staff and like most of us they have their good days and bad days. Sometimes they are very helpful and other times they are not helpful at all. They pretty much say nothing is in their control because they outsource everything. 2/5
8. Overall and misc: On more than one occasion, the trash in the trash room has been backed up and clogged around the trash room on the second floor. On the weekend, trash is overflowing in the common areas, mailbox trash bins, and in the stairway. There is dog poo in the hallways. The recycling is not conveniently located, and if it wasn't for us parking in the garage we wouldn't even know about it. The rent is also very high, for the little that you get in return. My rent has been raised twice since I have been here- and I cannot tell what I am paying for. Be prepared to sign a one year lease after your initial lease expires, or your rent will increase.
