After our tour of Como Park Apartments, my wife and I were impressed and looked forward to moving in. We thought about it, called back, and were given a higher rent quote. Apparently the higher rate reflects the quality of the apartment and location within the complex...well, we ended up with a completely unclean, unpainted apartment in a building closest to the adjacent railroad tracks and farthest from the community building (pool, exercise room, party room, tennis court). Our parking lot is also the only one that doesn't have a dumpster/recylcing bins, so I have to carry my trash across the complex. Our view overlooks a "playground" sandwiched between two garages (which has a basketball hoop on the ground) and the school bus yard. So that explains the higher rent'' Meanwhile, nearly 2 months after moving in, our maintence requests continue to go largely unfixed. The floor shakes when trains go by (loud and frequent), the smell on our floor often reaks, not helped by the poor ventilation. The state fair is held practically across the street- so parking and noise are annoyances for a week or two.
Not to say everything is bad. The apartment is almost adjacent to Como Park (zoo, conservatory, etc.), and it's not far to both downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul as well as Roseville, which has lots of shopping and restaurants. But when it comes to the apartment itself, I don't have much positive to say yet. I will say that the outdoor and indoor pools, which were recently renovated, are pretty nice, including a hot tub inside. But it doesn't feel like home; I have a feeling that we won't be warming up to this place.
