Good experience that went horribly wrong!

I originally moved in due to a wonderful tour of the apartments and nice staff. The first year I lived there was wonderful. I had no problems at all. Great neighbors, good staff, freindly atmosphere. I signed on for another 6 months to finish school and everything went down hill fast. The staff changed and went from people who took the time to get to know you and make sure everything was going well to a staff that always blaimed you for everything. I had the unfortunate experience of having a pipe burst in my bathroom. After coming home to an apartment 2 inches deep in water I called the emergancy line for 3 hours before I gave up and called the emergancy line for Steven Scott Management. The person I got there was wonderful and let me know someone would call me back in just a few minutes. Well someone did call me and I almost wish they hadn't. The person that showed up to fix my pipe destroyed was drunk. He proceeded to bang holes in my walls on the opposite wall from the actual leak and then told me he could not find the problem. No big surprise since he was looking in the wrong area. Well he never came back to repair the walls, I think he was fired but the main staff never returned my calls about the hole in the wall either. I ended up patching it up myself because I was getting concerned about possible bugs and rodents. Well at about the same time cars started getting broken into and I had someone try to break into my own apartment while I was in it. Scariest thing I have ever been through in my life. If it hadn't been for a neighbor who scared off the intruder I don't know what would have happened. After I had to do a police report I notified the office management and they told me that there was nothing they could do about it. That it was probably an ex and that I should take care of it on my own. First of all I was engaged and the intruder was a complete stranger. I asked that they get the "secured" front door fixed and they never did. The last 6 months I lived in this complex I was scared to death. Not to mention they tried to pretend that they has lost my written notice that I was moving. In the end finally got out but the biggest kicker was when they charged me for not fixing the hole in the wall properly.

I have been a resident now since September 2004 and I have to agree that living in this apartment complex is scary. Since I have lived here, there has been a murder, one of me neighbors was dealing illegal drugs out of the apartment, and a lot of my other neighbors are just scary. I am really worried about my safety and the only reason I am still living here is because I am close to having enough money saved to purchase a home. The staff is incompotent. When I first moved in, I was given a different apartment o move in to than what I signed my lease for. Since I found out literally as I pulled up to my new apartment with a moving truck, I didn't have much choice other than to sign a new lease for the smaller apartment I now had to put up with. Just as bad, I decided to re-sign my lease for one more year but to move to a larger apartment (which I should have had to begin with) and when that day came to move, the same "management" had no idea that I was moving on that day despite me stopping in to their office every couple days for weeks prior to the new move day to remind them. Also, when I complained about my drug-dealing neighbors, the proprty manager tried to tell me that it was my problem and that I would ahve to be responsible to call the police and get the police to take action. After arguing with her for months about this, I finally told her either to resolve this situation or I would leave my apartment. She then finally evicted the drug-dealing neighbor. I really hate living here and it is really to bad because I remember when I was in high school, about 12 years ago, I remember this apartment complex as being a nice place to live as I had a classmate who lived there. But now, it really is a inner city ghetto and the people managing this property either don't care or are totally incompotent. If you are going to live here make sure you have a lot of insurance and a hand gun for protection might now be a bad investment either. |
