safe and cheap

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
My roommate and I moved into the 429 building while each of us were working but going to graduate school full time. We were looking for something very inexpensive with no bells or whistles (amenities). The apartment we rented was well taken care of, the appliances were all new and clean. The 3 ceiling fans were very helpful in circulating air. Our air conditioning unit always worked. The front parking lot was often full but there is always parking on the street nearby and I feel safe having my car here. Bill is the name of the lead groundskeeper/caretaker. Bill lives across the street and was very supportive all the time. He was respectful and took care of concerns quickly, if not immediately. I feel safe in this neighborhood. I will be sad to leave this apartment after nearly two years. We have very little noise in our apartment from surrounding apartments. You can sometimes smell cooking from downstairs through our bathroom heat vent. I can also hear a young child through there sometimes but the noise is minimmal.
I appreciate the fact that this building is home for people from various different ethnic and racial backgrounds. The tenants I have met and seen seem respectful and friendly of each other and the property.
The washing machines are older, they do work. Sometime I needed to dry my clothes twice on some floors. Usually, I take my laundry elsewhere. I highly recommend this place to people looking for a safe and clean yet economic choice.
